James Ashe-Taylor is a partner in the London office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

Mr. Ashe-Taylor's practice primarily focuses on competition law at European Community law level and in the United Kingdom.  He focuses especially on cartels, merger control, state aid and the antitrust aspects of joint ventures, distribution and agency agreements.  He has significant experience in European cartel investigations with a private US litigation dimension.  He has particular sectoral expertise in the financial services, energy, aviation and communications sectors. Mr. Ashe-Taylor's recent practice has concentrated on representing clients in Phase I and II investigations under the EC Merger Control Regulation and providing counsel in relation to EC cartel investigations and their overlap with private US litigation.  He has advised the European Commission and the European Parliament on amendments to current EC financial services legislation, and also advises on EC Customs law having represented clients before the UK VAT and Duties Tribunal.

Mr. Ashe-Taylor is recommended in the field of Competition law by Practical Law Company's Which lawyer? 2007, he was also recognised as a leading lawyer in the same publication in 2008.

Before joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Ashe-Taylor was Partner in Charge of the European antitrust practice of a leading Washington, D.C. law firm.  Prior to that, he spent two years at JP Morgan, Inc. in London and New York.

James Ashe-Taylor is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, a faculty member of the Practising Law Institute (Chair of the Strategic Alliances Program in New York) and a Council Member of Britain in Europe. He is fluent in French and German.
