Peter L. Baumbusch, a partner in the Tax Department of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Dubai office, joined the firm in 1972. Mr. Baumbusch concentrates his practice in foreign investment in the United States, international taxation, general corporate taxation, executive compensation, and mergers, acquisitions and restructurings. He has provided legal and tax advice relating to the acquisition of more than $10 billion in United States companies and real estate investments; he has obtained successful results in numerous Internal Revenue Service rulings, audits and court cases; and he has advised foreign governments with respect to the United States tax system.  He has provided advice with respect to numerous multi-jurisdictional option and compensation programs for major international companies.

Mr. Baumbusch is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Georgetown University Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and he serves as the general counsel of the Saudi Arabia - United States Business Council.  Mr. Baumbusch also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Fair Tax Foundation, and he assisted Senator Bill Bradley in developing tax reform proposals. 

Mr. Baumbusch has lectured widely on a variety of subjects, including transfer pricing and cost sharing under Section 482, reporting and record keeping by foreign owners of United States corporations, the international taxation of partnerships, the branch profits tax, tax shelter partnership syndication and taxation, unrelated business taxable income and tax penalty rules applicable to tax shelters.  Mr. Baumbusch has also spoken on the campaign and political laws of California and the United States, and he is author of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation's Campaign and Lobbying Law Handbook.  He was recently ranked as one of the leading tax lawyers in the District of Columbia by Chambers USA - America's Leading Business Lawyers, 2005 edition.

Mr. Baumbusch is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.  He is a member of the American and California Bar Associations, and has served as Chair of the ABA Tax Section's Committee on Foreign Activities of United States Taxpayers.  He was primarily responsible for drafting the ABA's response to the Treasury Department's White Paper on Section 482 Intercompany Pricing.

Mr. Baumbusch received his Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1965, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and received the Chase Peace Prize.  He attended Magdalen College in Oxford from 1965 to 1966 and received his law degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1972, where he served on the Board of Student Advisors and the Harvard Law Review.
