Peter F. Ziegler, Partner in Charge of the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, joined the firm in 1974, was elected a partner in 1982 and became co-Partner-in-Charge of the office in 1999. A member of the firm’s Corporate Department, Peter has extensive experience in corporate securities and business matters, public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters.

Peter has handled a number of significant matters, including the representation of Farmers Group, Inc. in its defense against a takeover by B.A.T. Industries in 1988; Computer Sciences Corporation in its acquisition of the data services division of General Dynamics Corporation, and the related information technology outsourcing agreements in 1992; the Times Mirror Company in its disposition of its professional publishing assets in 1998; the merger of The Times Mirror Company with Tribune Company in 2000 and several transactions on behalf of Northrop Grumman Corporation, including its acquisition of Litton Industries, Inc. in 2001, its merger with TRW Inc. in 2002 and the disposition of TRW's Automotive business in 2003.  In addition, Peter has served as legal counsel in connection with public offerings of the debt and equity of numerous companies both on behalf of issuers and underwriters.

Peter is the past Chair of the Executive Committee of the Business and Corporations Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is also a member of the American and California Bar Associations.  Peter lectures on corporate and securities law matters and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council and the Board of Trustees of the Webb Schools, an independent secondary school in Claremont, California.

Peter received his bachelor of science degree in industrial administration and organizational behavior from Yale University in 1967.  He received his law degree from the University of Southern California in 1974.  Prior to joining Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Peter served in the United States Navy as a line officer from 1967 to 1971.  He is a member of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Diversity Committee.
