Corporate Board Member - GCs' Top 20 Firms and America's Best Corporate Law Firms
Corporate Board Member magazine ranked Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP eighth in its annual GCs' Top 20 Firms survey, based on a survey of 252 general counsels asked to name the outside law firms they most admire.  In a separate survey, Gibson Dunn was ranked 12th in the publication's annual top 20 list of  America's Best Corporate Law Firms, based on the votes of 340 directors. The rankings are included in the second quarter 2010 issue of the magazine.

Chambers Global Directory 2010 ranked Gibson Dunn in 18 categories and Gibson Dunn lawyers in 20 categories globally, regionally in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East and in Belgium, France, United Arab Emirates and United States. In its 2010 edition, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business awarded Gibson Dunn 51 first-tier rankings, of which 13 were firm practice group rankings and 38 were individual lawyer rankings.  Overall, the firm earned 204 rankings -- 61 firm practice group rankings and 143 individual lawyer rankings.

Institutional Investor - Benchmark Litigation Guide 2010
The 2010 edition of Institutional Investor's Benchmark Litigation Guide has recommended Gibson Dunn in seven of 10 key business litigation practice areas nationally. The 2010 edition of IFLR1000, a guide to the world's leading financial law firms, named Gibson Dunn as a recommended firm in six U.S. categories: Capital Markets - Debt and Equity, Capital Markets - High-Yield Debt, Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity - Fund Formation, Private Equity - Transactions, and Restructuring and Insolvency. American Lawyer's A-List  
American Lawyer magazine ranked Gibson Dunn on its prestigious A-List for the fourth consecutive year in 2009. The American Lawyer considers the 20 A-List law firms to be the most elite law firms in the country.  The rankings are determined by financial performance, commitment to pro bono and diversity and associate training and satisfaction.  The A-List is featured in the July 2009 issue.

PLC Which Lawyer? - Global 50
Gibson Dunn was named as one of the Global 50 by PLC Which Lawyer? in its 2009 Yearbook. The Global 50 are recognized as the "law firms that received the greatest depth and breadth of recommendations across the research" for the 2009 edition. Legal 500 - EMEA 2010
The EMEA Legal 500 (Europe, Middle East and Africa)  has recognized Gibson Dunn's Belgium, Germany, France and Dubai offices among its list of recommended law firms for 2010.  The firm is recognized in the following categories:  Competition in Belgium; Administrative and Public Law, and M&A in France; M&A: Mid-sized deals in Germany; and M&A and Investment Funds in Dubai.

 Asia Pacific Legal 500 2008/09
The Asia Pacific Legal 500 2008/09 has included Gibson Dunn's Singapore office among its list of recommended law firms in the Offshore Market category.  Singapore partner Emad Khalil was recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Projects and Energy.  The Singapore office is also mentioned in the Brunei section for its work advising the Brunei Economic Development Board.   

American Lawyer - Mid-Level Associates Survey
Gibson Dunn was ranked 6th out of 157 law firms across the country in the American Lawyer's 2008 Mid-Level Associates Survey, up from No. 38 last year.  The survey asks mid-level associates to evaluate their law firms in 12 areas that contribute to job satisfaction, including relations with partners and other associates, interest and satisfaction level with their work, training and guidance, policy on billables, management openess about firm strategies and partnership chances, firm's attitude toward pro bono work, compensation and benefits, and inclination to stay at their firms for two or more years.

Global Competition Review - Global Elite and GCR 100
Global Competition Review ranked the firm's antitrust practice 11th in the world in its Global Elite ranking, which features the top 20 antitrust practices in the world. Featured in GCR 100 - 10th Edition (2010), Global Competition Review's annual survey of the world's leading competition practices, the Global Elite ranking is based on four main factors: size of competition practice; number and location of nominees to The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists; stability of the practice (measured in net partner gains or losses over the year); and the number of votes it received from rival firms. Gibson Dunn was also ranked as an elite firm in the category United States: California and was highly recommended in the area of United States: Governmental Antitrust. Global Arbitration Review - GAR 100
Global Arbitration Review listed Gibson Dunn in the third edition of GAR 100, its annual guide to the international arbitration capabilities of law firms.  While noting the "recent creation" of Gibson Dunn's formal practice group, "a reporter noted that, in conversations with arbitration groups in London during 2008, Gibson Dunn began to be identified as a firm that was being seen far more often on pitches and making moves." 

National Law Journal - Appellate Hot List

National Law Journal ranked Gibson Dunn as one of the top appellate practices nationally in its annual Appellate Hot List.  Gibson Dunn was recognized for its "impressive track record," including winning the landmark campaign finance case.  The Appellate Hot List recognized 20 law firms with significant appellate victories since January 2009 before the U.S. Supreme Court and lower appellate courts.  The feature appears in the April 5, 2010 issue of National Law Journal.

Law360 - Employment Defense Firm of the Year
Law360 named Gibson Dunn one of the six Employment Defense Firms of 2009, recognizing the firms for their work on the year's major cases.  The ranking was published on January 1, 2010. 

Law360 - Competition Firm of the Year
Law360 named Gibson Dunn one of the top six Competition Firms of the Year for 2009, based on "both front-page mergers and major litigation victories."  The article commented, "In sum, the courtroom accomplishments attest to the fact that Gibson Dunn's antitrust group relishes trying cases, even in the daunting antitrust world where defendants often face the threat of treble damages."  The ranking was published on January 1, 2010.  Law360 also ranked Gibson Dunn second among the largest competition practices in the United States, based on number of lawyers in the group.  The ranking was published on December 4, 2009.

Law360 - Largest Securities Practices
Law360 ranked Gibson Dunn fourth among the largest securities practices in the United States, based on number of lawyers in the group.  The ranking was published on December 4, 2009.


 
Law360 - Top 10 Busiest U.S. Federal Class Action Practices
Law360 ranked Gibson Dunn 5th among the top 10 defense firms involved with the most federal class actions in the United States. The list of the top firms is based on the number of cases for which the firms were retained as defense counsel over a recent two-year period. The ranking was published on January 12, 2009.

LAWYER ACCOLADES

TIME Magazine - 2010 Time 100  
TIME named Washington, D.C. partner Theodore B. Olson to the 2010 TIME 100, the magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.  Olson is recognized in the Thinkers category, along with David Boies for their work in challenging the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8, the California constitutional amendment that eliminates marriage rights for same-sex couples.  The two were cited by TIME Magazine as the "lions of America's legal establishment" and "they've put on an extraordinary case in the federal court system . . .  They remind us that the ideas binding us together in our constitutional democracy are far more important than those separating us."  The full list and related tributes appear in the May 10 issue of TIME.  
 
Hollywood Reporter - Power Lawyers
The Hollywood Reporter named partners Scott Edelman, Ruth Fisher, Orin Snyder and Larry Ulman to its annual list of Power Lawyers, "spotlighting the 100 attorneys most influencing the entertainment business."  The list was published on July 16, 2010.

Daily Journal - Top Employment Defense Lawyers in California
The Daily Journal has named Orange County partner William Claster to its list of the Top Employment Defense Lawyers in California. Claster was recognized for his work on behalf of clients such as Marie Callender Pie Shops Inc., Johnny Rockets, Transamerica Corp. and Tenet Healthcare Corp.   The list was featured in the July 14, 2010 issue.

Daily Journal - Top Women Litigators
The Daily Journal has named Marjorie Lewis, Andrea Neuman and Meryl Young to its annual list of Top Women Litigators.  Lewis was honored for her work handling litigation involving distressed lenders and representing automobile manufacturers and trade associations.  Neuman was selected for her work on behalf of Chevron Corp. and Dole Food Co.  Young was honored for her securities litigation work on behalf of clients such as New Century.  All three are profiled in the May 12, 2010 issue of the Daily Journal.

Turnarounds & Workouts -  2010 Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers

Turnarounds & Workouts named Gibson Dunn New York partner Matt Williams as one of 12 finalists for its Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers 2010 List published in the April issue.  Finalists are U.S. based attorneys under the age of 40 who have handled cases that are large, complex, and highly visible within the last 12 months.  The finalists will be honored in November at the annual Distressed Investing Conference held in New York City.

Daily Journal - 75 Leading IP Litigators
The Daily Journal has named partners Wayne Barsky, Denis Salmon and Jeffrey Thomas to its list of the 75 Leading IP Litigators.  Attorneys are selected based on the impact that they have had on intellectual property law.  The list was published on April 7, 2010. 

California Lawyer - 2010 Attorneys of the Year
California Lawyer named Scott Edelman and Andrea Neuman among its 2010 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year recognizing "lawyers throughout the state whose legal work made a profound impact in 2009."  The only two lawyers recognized in the Litigation category, Edelman and Neuman were honored for their work representing Dole Food Company in cases that were dismissed after they presented evidence exposing a massive fraud.  The feature appeared in the March 2010 issue.

The Recorder - 2009 Attorneys of the Year
The Recorder named partners Theodore J. Boutrous, Jr., Scott Edelman and Andrea Neuman to its inaugural 2009 Attorneys of the Year list, honoring 16 "practicing lawyers who made big headlines through the achievement of tangible results for a client in California during the last year."  Boutrous, Edelman and Neuman were recognized for their work for Dole Food Co. persuading a Los Angeles judge to dismiss two of the leading toxic tort cases against Dole after finding that the plaintiffs and their lawyers committed fraud and putting into serious doubt the validity $2 billion in judgments rendered against Dole prior to Gibson Dunn’s involvement in dozens of similar suits.  The list is featured in the February 22, 2010 issue.

Daily Journal - California's Top 20 Lawyers Under Age 40
The Daily Journal featured Los Angeles partner Christopher Dusseault on its annual list of Top 20 California Attorneys Under 40.  The article appeared in the January 13, 2010 issue.

BTI's 2010 Client Service All-Stars 
BTI Consulting named Washington, D.C. partners Dan Nelson and John Olson to its 2010 BTI Client Service All-Stars list.  The list is based solely on "unprompted, unequivocal recommendation from corporate counsel" from large and Fortune 1000 companies.  More than 60 percent of corporate counsel selected the All-Stars for their client focus: "true thought leadership; innovation; creativity applied to the client; focused, practical problem-solving; valued counsel; responsiveness and accessibility; total commitment to the client."  

NACD Directorship 100
The National Association of Corporate Directors has named Washington, D.C. partner John Olson to its third annual Directorship 100 list.  The Directorship 100 identifies the "who's who of the corporate governance community," lawyers who exert the most profound influence on the boardroom agenda.

Asian Legal Business - ALB Hot 100
Singapore partner Jai Pathak was named to Asian Legal Business' "Hot 100" list of lawyers.  The list features lawyers "who have performed outstandingly in their field, or courted controversy and turned heads" and who have "set newsrooms abuzz in their pursuit of excellence, in one of the most challenging years for legal sectors seen across the Asian region."  The list was issued on September 24, 2009.

Century City Bar Association - Litigator of the Year
The Century City Bar Association has named partner Scott Edelman as Litigator of the Year for 2009. CCBA's Lawyers of the Year are "not only are the 'best of the best' in Century City, but unquestionably among the finest lawyers in their fields in the entire United States," said CCBA President Mitchell Stein.

US Legal 500 2009 - Leading Trial Lawyers
The 2009 edition of the U.S. Legal 500 named partner Randy Mastro as one of top 10 leading trial lawyers in the country.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal - California's Top 100 Lawyers
The Daily Journal has named Thedoroe J. Boutrous, Jr. and Scott Edelman to its annual list of California's Top 100 Lawyers.  The list is featured in the September 23, 2009 issues of the Los Angeles Daily Journal and the San Francisco Daily Journal.

Los Angeles Business Journal - Who's Who in L.A. Law
The Los Angeles Business Journal named Wayne Barsky, Scott Edelman and Jesse Sharf to its list of Who's Who in L.A. Law, featuring the top 100 attorneys in Los Angeles.  The list appears in the October 5, 2009 issue.

Yale School of Management's Millstein Center for Corporate
Governance and Performance named Gibson Dunn associate Elizabeth Ising as a "Rising Star of Corporate Governance" for 2009. This award recognizes 10 corporate governance professionals from around the world under the age of 40 who were selected by peers, the Center and other industry groups based on past accomplishments and thought leadership, future projects and endeavors, reputation among existing industry leaders, and potential to influence the industry in the future. Variety - Dealmakers Impact Report
Variety has named partners Ruth Fisher, Lawrence Ulman and associate Stephen Tsoneff to its Dealmakers Impact Report, featuring the top dealmakers – attorneys, executives, managers and financiers – in the entertainment business.  The report highlights the dealmakers who "negotiate for their clients, lead their companies, shape the business and turn the wheels of the industry."  Fisher and Ulman were named among the top 15 lawyers in the business, while Tsoneff was named among the nine "Dealmakers Up Next".  The report appeared in the September 24, 2008 issue.

Human Resource Executive and Lawdragon - Nation's Top 10 Employment Defense Attorneys
Partner William Kilberg was named among the Top 10 employment attorneys in the country by Human Resource Executive magazine and Lawdragon. The ranking was based on key achievements, including 20-plus years of experience and membership in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, as well as evaluations by peers, clients and judges. The feature, titled "The Best Defense," on the nation's most powerful employment attorneys, is the cover story of the March 2, 2008 issue of Human Resource Executive.

Legal Times - Top Securities Attorneys in D.C.
Partner Brian Lane was named among the seven top securities attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area by Legal Times.  The March 24, 2008 article featuring "Washington's elite bar of corporate governance experts" recognized lawyers who "have a particular specialty: They run the kind of internal investigations that earn regulators' good will."

NAPABA - Best Lawyers Under 40
The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association named partner Frederick Chung to its 2008 list of "Best Lawyers Under 40." The list features 18 lawyers, who "have achieved prominence and distinction in their respective fields while demonstrating a strong commitment to the community." The lawyers were honored at NAPABA's annual convention in Seattle on November 22, 2008.

UK Legal Experts 2008
UK Legal Experts 2008 has identified six London partners as experts in their respective fields of practice:  Paul Harter, Kenneth Lamb and Wayne McArdle for Corporate/M&A, Thomas Budd for Bank Lending, Alan Samson for Commercial Property and Cyrus Benson for Arbitration.

National Law Journal - 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America
The National Law Journal has named Debra Wong Yang to its 2008 list of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America. The feature recognizes Yang's achievement as the first Asian-American woman appointed to serve as a U.S. Attorney, as well as for her work and leadership at Gibson Dunn and as a member of the Committee of 100, an international organization that aims to strengthen relations between the United States and China. The list appeared in the May 26, 2008 issue.
