Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Century City office, situated on the west side of Los Angeles, was established in 1966. We are located approximately ten miles west of downtown Los Angeles, between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, in a major commercial and financial area that is home to many entertainment and media companies. The office offers a full range of legal services, with a particular emphasis on media and entertainment, corporate transactions and securities, real estate finance, civil and commercial litigation, including antitrust, securities litigation and intellectual property. The Century City office is also the West Coast arm of the Firm's Public Policy Practice.
Gibson Dunn has enjoyed a long-term relationship with many of the region's major media and entertainment companies, dating from the early days of the establishment of our practice in Los Angeles. Our clients include some of the largest film studios, television networks, game publishers, print publishers, theme park companies, music companies, and internet-based multimedia businesses in the world. We have one of the leading film finance practices in the United States and abroad, have handled some of the largest mergers in the industry, litigated some of the highest profile First Amendment issues, and protected the intellectual property of some of the most prominent global entertainment brands in the marketplace.
Gibson Dunn's Intellectual Property practice group enjoys a national reputation for its expertise in all facets of intellectual property transactions and litigation. Our attorneys actively represent clients in the areas of patent infringement litigation in the semiconductor, computer, software, telecommunications, medical device, medical technology, and life sciences industries; electronic commerce and the Internet; trade secret, copyright, anti-piracy, computer fraud, and counterfeiting litigation; trademark, trade dress, anti-dilution, and unfair competition litigation; acquisition and divestiture of intellectual property assets and portfolios; software development, source code licensing, OEM, outsourcing, bundling, and distribution agreements.
Our Corporate Transactions practice represents corporations and financial institutions in complex corporate restructuring and public and private financing transactions, and represents buyers, sellers and lenders in the purchases and sales of assets or stock, and in acquisitions, mergers, and other business combinations and related financings. Our Century City attorneys have handled some of the largest transactions in the world, and the Firm has been listed by Thomson Financial among the top firms in terms of announced M&A transactions.
Litigation and litigation avoidance constitute a substantial component of our practice, and we represent a wide array of industries in matters involving intellectual property (patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition), business and commercial torts, antitrust (including both civil and criminal government investigations), and all types of commercial contract disputes. Our Century City attorneys also have substantial experience in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including arbitration, mediation, and "mini-trials." Finally, our lawyers spend much of their time counseling and advising clients on how to avoid litigation, from constructing corporate compliance programs through regular consultations on business strategy and tactics.
Our Real Estate practice handles a variety of sophisticated matters for clients ranging from privately-held entrepreneurial developers, to the owners, developers and financiers of some of the largest real estate projects in the country. We counsel these clients on all aspects of asset ownership and management, development and entitlement, environmental and land use issues, financing, investment transactions, and workouts.
Our Public Policy practice, housed both in our Century City office and our Washington, D.C. office, regularly counsels clients on matters in which their business is affected by government action. We comment on proposed legislation, and advocate on behalf of client interests at the local, state, national, and international levels, and have extensive dealings with governmental bodies and agencies in the legislative and executive branches.
