The American Lawyer has named Gibson Dunn the winner of its biennial "Litigation Department of the Year" competition for the third time since 2010. The magazine also named Gibson Dunn as the winner in the new White-Collar & Regulatory category. The awards were announced in the magazine's January 2016 issue.

Gibson Dunn is ranked No. 4 on The American Lawyer’s most prestigious survey, the 2016 A-List, an annual ranking “20 firms that excel in four vital areas: financial success, pro bono commitment, diversity and associate satisfaction.” The American Lawyer noted that Gibson Dunn’s 14-point improvement in its overall score came from increases in its pro bono, associate satisfaction and diversity scores. – America's Best Corporate Law Firms
NYSE Governance Services, a leading provider of corporate governance, risk, ethics and compliance services, and global business advisory firm FTI Consulting, Inc., recognized Gibson Dunn in their 16th annual America's Best Corporate Law Firms study, a comprehensive ranking by U.S. corporate directors and general counsel of the top 25 corporate law firms. Gibson Dunn ranked No. 5 in a survey of general counsel and No. 6 in a separate survey of corporate directors. The study reflects the views of more than 600 participating directors and general counsel of publicly traded companies. The rankings were announced on May 25, 2016.

Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business awarded Gibson Dunn 77 first-tier rankings, of which 27 were firm practice group rankings and 50 were individual lawyer rankings. Overall, the firm earned 261 rankings – 71 firm practice group rankings and 190 individual lawyer rankings.

At its annual awards, The Lawyer named Gibson Dunn the winner in the International Law Firm of the Year category. The judges said: “Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s clear strategy both globally and in the UK is delivering results, positioning the firm at the very top of the market.” The Lawyer noted that “The firm showed results based on a clear strategy of building a broad-based, international disputes and transactional offering in London on a US platform.” The event was held in London on June 29, 2016.
The German publication JUVE recommended Gibson Dunn's Munich and Brussels offices in the 2016/2017 edition of its annual directory. The firm was recommended in the Munich region and recognized in the Antitrust, Compliance Audits and Investigations, Corporate and M&A categories. National Law Journal – Appellate Hot List
The National Law Journal named Gibson Dunn to its 2016 Appellate Hot List, which recognized 20 firms that "delivered−winning big in federal and state appeals courts across the country" and "represented some of the most well-known companies in the land. " The firm was featured for its international disputes successes, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Appellate Hot List was published on December 26, 2016.

– IP Hot List
The National Law Journal ranked Gibson Dunn as one of the top 10 intellectual property practices nationally in its 2016 Intellectual Property Hot List [PDF]. Gibson Dunn was recognized for securing a jury verdict victory for T-Mobile USA after a three-week trial "in a case when the plaintiff has already prevailed against two defendants on similar set of facts." Commercial Property Executive – Leading Real Estate Law Firms
Commercial Property Executive ranked Gibson Dunn fifth on its 2016 Leading Real Estate Law Firms list. IFLR – Restructuring of the Year; Loan of the Year
International Financial Law Review has named the Corporación GEO Mexican insolvency proceeding, known as a "concurso mercantil," as the Restructuring of the Year at its IFLR Americas Awards 2016. Gibson Dunn represented the majority holders of approximately $160 million in notes issued by an off-balance sheet trust that owns substantially all of the equipment that supports the operations of Corporación GEO, one of the largest homebuilders in Mexico. Additionally, IFLR named the GE Real Estate Mexico /Blackstone financing as the Loan of the Year. Gibson Dunn acted as U.S. counsel to Blackstone in the U.S. portion of the seller financing provided by GE for the transaction. The awards were presented on March 31, 2016.
Sports Business Journal - Power Players
Sports Business Journal named Gibson Dunn a “Premier” Sports Law practice in its Power Players: Outside Counsel feature. SBJ noted that the “team at Gibson Dunn doesn’t shy from the spotlight” and highlighted Washington, D.C. partners Andrew Tulumello and Theodore Olson’s representation of Tom Brady in his Deflategate appeal, among others, and New York partner Richard Birns’ representations of YES Network in its sale of an approximately 80 percent stake to Fox, and agent Arn Tellem in his move to become vice chairman of Palace Sports & Entertainment. International Tax Review - European M&A Tax Deal of the Year International Tax Review named the Willis Group Holdings merger with Towers Watson as its European M&A Tax Deal of the Year at its annual awards dinner. LMG Life Sciences Awards
Gibson Dunn won six awards, at the fourth annual LMG Life Sciences Awards. For its work on behalf of Life Science industry leaders, the firm was named Litigation Firm of the Year and Finance & Transactional Firm of the Year. The American Lawyer named the Argentine bonds litigation settlement as the 2016 Global Dispute of the Year: Grand Prize winner at its annual Global Legal Awards. Gibson Dunn was recognized for its representation of NML Capital in its $2.4 billion settlement with Argentina after a decade of litigation. The award ceremony was held on September 26, 2016.
Asian Legal Business - Philippines Debt Finance Deal of the Year
Asian Legal Business has named AP Renewables' $US225 million climate bond as Philippines Debt Finance Deal of the Year at its annual Philippines Law Awards. Gibson Dunn represented AP Renewables as issuer, in the first climate bond issued for a single project in an emerging market. The bond was issued in connection with the refinancing of the Tiwi-Makban geothermal plant. The Gibson Dunn team was led by Patricia Tan Openshaw and was assisted by of counsel Cristina Uy-Tioco. The awards were held on October 14, 2016 in Hong Kong.
China Business Law Journal - Deal of the Year
China Business Law Journal has named the acquisition by a Chinese private equity consortium of OmniVision Technologies, Inc. as one of its Deals of the Year. Gibson Dunn partners Fang Xue and Joseph Barbeau represented the Chinese private equity consortium, led by Hua Capital Management Co., Ltd, a Beijing-based investment management company, and including CITIC Capital Holdings Limited and GoldStone Investment Co., Ltd., in connection with its $1.9 billion acquisition of OmniVision Technologies, Inc., a Santa Clara, California-based developer of digital imaging chips used in mobile phones, cameras and other devices.
