A partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Los Angeles office since 1988, Marjorie Ehrich Lewis joined the firm in 1981 following a clerkship with Judge Warren Ferguson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ms. Lewis served from 1998 to 2007 as co-Partner-in-Charge of the firm's 230-lawyer Los Angeles and Century City offices. She was a member of the firm's Executive Committee from 1996 to 2000, and a member of both the Executive Committee and the Management Committee from 1999 to 2000. She is a commercial litigator with experience in a broad range of commercial disputes in state and federal court and before administrative agencies. In 2007 and 2009, Ms. Lewis was named one of the Top Women Litigators in California by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. She has also been named a Southern California Super Lawyer for 2005-2009. Representative case experience includes the following: - Lockyer v. General Motors, et al. -- representation of the six major automakers in a federal court public nuisance action filed by the State of California seeking billions of dollars against the automakers for their alleged contribution to global warming.
- ZAP v. DaimlerChrysler AG -- representation of DaimlerChrysler's smart gmbh division in Los Angeles Superior Court and in the California Court of Appeals in action seeking $500 million in damages for alleged interference with prospective economic relations, trade libel, defamation and unfair business practices in connection with the smart line of vehicles.
- LodgeMakers v. County of San Bernardino -- representation of plaintiff in action against County of San Bernardino Department of Probation in action seeking recovery for breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing and fraud in connection with plaintiff's provision of services to San Bernardino County youth at a facility built to the County's specifications.
- Western Automotive, Inc. v. Nissan North America, Inc. -- representation of Nissan in San Joaquin County Superior Court action brought by former dealer seeking damages for breach of contract, tortious interference with contractual relations and tortious interference with prospective business advantage in connection with Nissan's alleged unreasonable withholding of consent to the sale of the dealership business (set for jury trial June 30, 2008).
- Daniel v. GA Communications, Inc. -- representation of pre-press media company in Los Angeles Superior Court action seeking damages for alleged misappropriation of likeness/false light invasion of privacy in connection with the creation of advertising materials.
- Group 1 Automotive, Inc. v. DaimlerChrysler Financial Services, et al. -- representation of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services, Mercedez Benz USA and DaimlerChrysler Motors in federal court action by large dealer group seeking damages for alleged violations of federal antitrust and Dealer Day in Court statutes, as well as state anti-coercion, unfair competition and breach of contract claims.
- Frontier Infiniti v. Nissan North America, Inc. -- representation of Nissan in 17 day trial before the California New Motor Vehicle Board challenging Nissan's appointment of additional dealer in San Jose, California.
- Don Davis Nissan Grapevine, Inc. v. Grubbs Nissan Mid-Cities, Ltd. -- representation of Nissan in 15 day trial before the Texas Motor Vehicle Commission challenging Nissan's notice of appointment of additional dealer in Grapevine, Texas.
- Southgate Nissan v. Nissan North America, Inc. -- representation of Nissan in 20 day trial before the California New Motor Vehicle Board seeking to terminate existing dealer for failure to comply with contractual obligation to provide complying facilities.
Ms. Lewis graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1976 from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. In 1979, she received her law degree from New York University, where she was a member of the New York University Law Review.
Ms. Lewis served for ten years as a Trustee of the Center for Early Education, an independent elementary school in Los Angeles, and currently serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Sheriff's Youth Foundation. She is a member of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Partnership Evaluation Committee. |
