European Parliament Member Angelika Niebler Joins Gibson Dunn in Munich

​Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Dr. Angelika Niebler joined the firm’s Munich office as of counsel. Niebler, a member of the European Parliament and chairwoman of the Christian Social Union Europe Group in the European Parliament previously practiced with Bird & Bird. At Gibson Dunn, she will support the Media, Entertainment & Technology Group as well as the Privacy, Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection Group.

About Angelika Niebler

Niebler is a German-qualified lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in practicing law in different international law firms, mainly focusing on IT and media.  Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, she practiced from 2004 to 2015 with Bird & Bird. Before that she practiced with Beiten Burkhardt from 1997 to 2004 and at Hogan Lovells from 1991 to 1997. She studied law in Munich, Geneva and Edinburgh and received a Ph.D. in law, summa cum laude, from the Ludwig-Maximilian University in 1992.

Niebler has served as a member of the European Parliament since 1999.  She currently serves as Chairwoman of the Christian Social Union Europe Group in the European Parliament and Co-Chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union Group in the EPP Group. 

Niebler is a member of the Supervisory Board of Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), a German public service television broadcaster; the Senate of Max Planck Society, an association of German research institutes; the Board of Trustees of the Technical University Munich; and the Executive Committee of Hanns Seidel Stiftung, a nonprofit political education organization. She is also deputy chairwoman of the Foundation Board of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Bavarian Economic Council.  She serves as president of the Women’s Branch of the CSU in Bavaria. She is also lecturing at the Faculty of Business management of the University of Applied Sciences in Munich.
