Gibson Dunn Adds International Arbitration Partner in New York
February 07, 2008

New York.  Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce Laurence Shore will join the firm as partner in the New York office.  Shore focuses his practice on international arbitration and litigation.  He previously practiced with Herbert Smith in its London office, where he served as global head of the international arbitration practice.

"We are delighted to welcome Larry to the firm,” said Ken Doran, Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn.  “Larry is well known and highly regarded among international arbitration practitioners.  The expansion of our international arbitration practice is a strategic priority for the firm, and the addition of Larry to that group, together with Cy Benson who we recruited to our London office last year, will raise our profile and expand our capabilities in that area in furtherance of that strategic priority."

"Larry’s 18-plus years of experience in the US and UK will be an asset to our team," said Robert Serio, Co-Managing Partner of the New York office.  "His dual-qualified background fits the firm’s plan to create a core group of international arbitration lawyers along a London-New York axis.  This will position the firm to be able to handle major arbitrations, which increasingly look to the UK and US as arbitral seats.”

“I am excited about the prospect of returning to the US and working with my new colleagues,” said Shore.  “Gibson Dunn has an incredible litigation platform that I am eager to join.”

About Laurence Shore

Shore has served as lead counsel on numerous international arbitrations under all major arbitral rules, including UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA and AAA.  These matters range from disputes about the design and construction of oil refineries, to ownership and control of telecommunications ventures to software distribution contracts.  He is a frequent speaker and author on international arbitration issues.  Shore is co-author of International Investment Arbitration: Substantive Principles, published in 2007 by Oxford University Press.
Prior to joining the firm, Shore was a partner at Herbert Smith in London, where he practiced since 1995, serving as the head of the international arbitration group since 2005.  Before that, he worked in the Office of the Legal Adviser for the US Department of State and with Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C.  He graduated in 1989 with distinction from Emory University School of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of Emory Law Journal.  He also earned a M.A. and Ph.D in history from The Johns Hopkins University.
