July 5, 2016

As the New York Court of Appeals wraps up for the summer, Gibson Dunn’s inaugural Round-Up summarizes key opinions issued by the Court in civil cases, previews important cases that the Court will hear in the coming months, and highlights other developments of interest.

This Term has been marked by significant changes in the Court’s membership.  On January 21, 2016, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore was confirmed as Chief Judge, and on February 8, 2016, Michael Garcia was confirmed as an Associate Judge.

In 2016, the Court has issued 118 decisions thus far.  Looking ahead, the Court has scheduled 36 cases for argument in September (both civil and criminal), and there are an additional 198 pending cases for which argument has not yet been scheduled.
