Based in any US office, the Global Practice Services (GPS) Manager will lead initiatives in project management, strategy service execution, and the adoption of cutting-edge workflows, including artificial intelligence applications tailored to the legal industry. The GPS Manager is an instrumental leadership role tasked with steering the team and firm toward excellence in the integration and application of eDiscovery technology solutions throughout the litigation lifecycle. The GPS team is comprised of eDiscovery Specialists and Senior eDiscovery Specialists who support internal eDiscovery and Litigation Support functions across the firm. This role demands a strategic vision for enhancing client engagement and optimizing project outcomes. Serving as a senior expert advisor, the GPS Manager will provide strategic guidance on complex legal technology challenges, ensuring the team delivers comprehensive solutions that span the entirety of the litigation lifecycle, maximizing efficiency and ensuring both attorney and client satisfaction.

This role reports to the GPS Associate Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strategically lead the GPS team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and the specific needs of litigation projects.
  • Align GPS protocols with broader Gibson Dunn goals and guiding principles.
  • In conjunction with GPS leadership, champion the implementation of advanced eDiscovery technology solutions, specifically designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities at each stage of the litigation lifecycle.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team to streamline processes, enhance data analysis, and improve efficiency during discovery and trial preparation.
  • Serve as a senior expert advisor, offering in-depth guidance and strategic oversight on the application of legal technology solutions across all phases of litigation, ensuring attorneys are positioned for success.
  • Manage relationships with external preferred service providers, ensuring timely delivery of outsourced services while maintaining the firm’s quality standards. This will include negotiating contracts, complex pricing analysis, delicate communications, fostering relationship development, and resolving any issues that arise to ensure a smooth partnership.
  • Draft and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline internal processes and ensure compliance with industry best practices and firm policy.
  • Monitor and balance active workloads across a team of 12+ Specialists and Senior Specialists, allowing for optimal performance while maximizing utilization across the team.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among the GPS team, as well as with cross-functional partners, to ensure a cohesive approach to litigation support and technology solutions.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and career development opportunities to eDiscovery Specialists and Senior Specialists, bolstering their expertise in litigation technology solutions and elevating the team’s overall capabilities.
  • Develop and sustain strategic client relationships, delivering high-level technology consultations and showcasing the impact of our solutions on litigation efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in the nuances of the litigation process, from data scoping through to trial services, with a proven track record of delivering effective technology solutions at each stage.
  • Exceptional strategic vision and leadership skills, capable of guiding complex projects and teams to success in a dynamic legal environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the latest innovations in legal technology and their applications within the litigation lifecycle.
  • Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, legal teams, vendors, and technology experts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset focused on continuous improvement and innovation in legal technology solutions.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, with a JD or Master’s degree equivalent in a related discipline preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience working with legal technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years management experience, directly overseeing high-performing teams.
  • Proven leadership experience managing high-stakes, complex, cross-border eDiscovery matters.
  • Proficiency in legal technology software, specifically Relativity, RelativityOne, Opus2 and CaseNotebook.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $220-240k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
