Based in any of our US offices (Palo Alto preferred), you will be a Practice Group Program Manager for the Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Data Innovation (PCDI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) practices. This role is responsible for the daily execution of business and operational tasks for the PCDI + AI practice groups.  Gibson Dunn is looking for a dynamic contributor that is passionate about the subject matter and work of the PCDI + AI practices and that can act as an interface not only to the partners and associates at the firm, but also in client-facing scenarios.

This individual will also work closely with the firm’s various legal and administrative groups to support the practice group’s goals associated with marketing and client development, financial reporting, talent management and recruiting, knowledge management, professional development, partner support and strategic initiatives.

This role reports to the PCDI and AI Practice Group Leaders (PGLs).

Responsibilities include:

Knowledge management

  • Develop and maintain a searchable library of prior client guidance, research and templates organized by substantive and geographical area.

Programmatic Controls

  • Develop and maintain an interactive control framework that documents requirements and related best in class controls for different industries, geographies, and regulatory frameworks around the globe.

Practice group management

  • Support the PCDI + AI practices in its phase of rapid growth. Maintain overall knowledge of matters handled by the practice group and how such matters align with overall firm strategy. Work with the practice group to coordinate and plan the agenda for regular practice group meetings. Develop and facilitate practice-specific training and onboarding programs.

Marketing and Business Development

  • Interface with key related practices to ensure all departments have timely access to updated PCDI + AI group information.
  • Coordinate and assist marketing with client pitches, requests for information, and proposals.

Research, writing and client matter support

  • Conduct requested research into regulatory and legal issues, clients and prospective clients general business trends and issues being followed by the practice group, and factual questions in connection with client-related matters.
  • Prepare reports and memoranda as necessary to support practice group activities, including developing the practice group’s general understanding of business and legal issues; helping to prepare articles, speeches, and presentations; supporting client requests.
  • Act as the central repository for the knowledge of matters and work product developed by the PCDI + AI groups, including research materials, publications, past articles, speeches, newsletters, agency issuances, and matter files.
  • Coordinate and distribute periodic practice-specific updates tracking relevant legal developments for internal and external education.

Monitoring of Relevant Legal and News Developments

  • Daily monitoring of local, national and international English-language press sources for issues relevant to PCDI + AI clients and the groups. Circulate relevant information from these sources to the practice group and/or clients, including information on their applicability to current PCDI + AI clients and matters.

Strategic Planning, Management and Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of practice group strategic goals and objectives, as defined by practice leadership, including required coordination and execution.
  • Assist in the preparation of practice group reporting, including preparing and managing productivity and availability reports.
  •  Work with the Knowledge Management team and practice group attorneys to develop, maintain, and publicize relevant practice group materials, including forms, interpretation documents, and databases. Assist with special projects as they arise.

Financial

  • Work with colleagues in the Finance Department to address specific reporting needs for the practice group.
  • Help track hours and originations on a monthly basis and flag any patterns (positive or negative).Track fee arrangements and develop fee and pricing guides to assist practice group attorneys with originating matters.

Recruiting, Attorney Professional Development and Work Assignment Staffing

  • Assist PGLs in the process of strategically identifying, and evaluating lateral partner candidates in conjunction with the Chief of Lateral Partner Recruiting and Integration.
  • Provide on-boarding support to lateral hires in the practice group.
  • Work and coordinate with partners to plan formal training programs for practice group lawyers.
  • Assist in managing the work allocation process for practice group lawyers in coordination with designated partners. Develop a means of identifying key legal issues for which practice group attorneys have gained expertise.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with lawyers, staff and peer administrators across the firm. A strong team player.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of responsibilities and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, take initiative and work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience

  • University degree
  • Minimum five years’ experience that is directly related to the duties or skills described herein, including at least two years’ experience as a manager of a function.
  • Preferred experience in a professional services firm, ideally a law firm or relevant in house or tech company role.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $150-250k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
