Peter Decker is a partner in the Munich office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the firm’s Real Estate, Private Equity, Global Finance and Energy and Infrastructure Practice Groups.
Mr. Decker has practiced in the areas of real estate, related equity and debt financing, and corporate law throughout his career. His practice focuses on national and international private equity real estate, real estate transactions, real estate development, joint ventures, debt and equity financing, sale and leasebacks, and leases, as well as restructuring, reorganization and privatization. In addition, he advises on turnkey construction projects (forward sales and acquisitions, and leases with turnkey planning and construction obligations) with a special focus on hotels, senior care facilities and nursing homes. He counsels as well on project management, claim management and real estate litigation.
Mr. Decker’s clients include national and international private equity firms, family offices, asset managers, private investors and real estate developers. International clients are primarily from Europe and the Middle East.
Chambers Europe consistently ranks Mr. Decker as one of Germany’s leading real estate lawyers, with clients noting in the 2017 edition “his proactive and constructive thinking in finding solutions.” Legal Experts EMEA and Legal 500 EMEA have recognized Mr. Decker as a leading lawyer in the fields of construction and real estate, and the International Who’s Who of Real Estate Lawyers listed him as one of the foremost real estate practitioners worldwide in its 2011 and 2012 editions.
Mr. Decker is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences on real estate law and real estate-related topics. From 2004 to 2014 he lectured on real estate law as the chair of project management and real estate development at the Technical University of Munich.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Decker headed the real estate department of a well-known German law firm, and before that acted as managing director of a development company, focusing on hotels and nursing homes.
Mr. Decker studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and has been admitted as a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) since 1982. He obtained his doctor’s degree from the University of Regensburg in 1984. Mr. Decker has been a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) since 2010.
