Ron Hauben is Senior Counsel in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Co-Chair of the firm’s Accounting Firm Advisory and Defense Practice Group. Mr. Hauben’s practice focus is on bringing the full scope of the firm’s legal services to the accounting profession, including regulatory enforcement and litigation defense, corporate governance, counseling and advice on a wide range of risk, crisis management and professional practice issues.
Mr. Hauben has more than 30 years of accounting profession experience in navigating “bet the firm” litigation and regulatory matters, crisis management and compliance challenges. His expansive knowledge of the accounting profession and the legal, regulatory and business environment in which it operates is unrivaled.
Mr. Hauben also has extensive experience counseling with public and private company boards and management on the role of independent auditors and the importance of the independent audit to stakeholders and capital markets.
Before joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Hauben served as Americas Vice Chair and General Counsel at Ernst & Young from 2014 to 2022. In his role as chief legal officer, he served as a trusted legal and business advisor to the CEO, senior management and board. He led a legal team of more than 200 professionals across the Americas and was responsible for handling litigation and regulatory matters, corporate, employment, risk and crisis management.
Prior to his tenure as General Counsel, Mr. Hauben served as Deputy General Counsel from 2009 to 2014 and Associate General Counsel from 2003 to 2009. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hauben held multiple senior roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, including as Global General Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting and Global Chief Corporate Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Hauben received his law degree with honors from New York University School of Law in 1981, where he served as senior editor of the NYU Review of Law & Social Change. He served as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Malcolm Muir of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1983.
