BIOGRAPHY

Jon MacDonald is of counsel in the Orange County office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a member of the firm’s Real Estate Department.

Mr. MacDonald’s practice covers a wide range of commercial real estate transactions, including advising developers and investors in connection with a broad array of development projects, portfolio and single asset acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financing, and restructuring across asset classes, including retail, office, hotels/resorts, multifamily, and mixed-use projects throughout the United States.

Mr. MacDonald has also focused on mergers and acquisitions, fund formations, advising boards, corporate governance, securities filings, litigation management, employment and other operational matters (e.g., construction, asset management, property management) for real estate investment, development, and financing companies.

Mr. MacDonald has served as General Counsel of NYSE-traded and private equity-owned real estate investment, development, and financing companies.  Before joining Gibson Dunn, Jon served as General Counsel for Fairfield Residential, a multifamily and mixed-use investment and development company.  He primarily focused on transactions at Fairfield with an emphasis on large scale multifamily and mixed-use development projects across the United States, including navigating pre-development risks and challenges, leading joint venture transactions, and overseeing financing transactions.

He is a member of the Urban Development & Mixed-Use Council for the Urban Land Institute.

Mr. MacDonald earned his Juris Doctor from Duke University.  He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College, where he graduated magna cum laude.
