Mairi McMartin is a senior antitrust lawyer based in the London and Brussels offices of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group. She is a member of the bar of England and Wales and the Brussels bar.
She has over 15 years of experience advising on a wide range of antitrust issues, including merger control, vertical and horizontal arrangements and cartel investigations, before the European Commission as well as national competition authorities in Europe and beyond. She has particular experience in the payments, healthcare, digital, consumer products and chemicals industries. She also advises on foreign direct investment regulation.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn Ms. McMartin trained at a leading UK law firm in London and worked for 15 years at the Brussels offices of two UK magic circle firms.
She has advised on many high profile transactions and conduct investigations over the years, including a multinational pharmaceutical company in relation to a proposed game-changing global deal, Visa on a number of its Multilateral Interchange Fee investigations and follow-on litigation, Volkswagen in relation to its acquisition of MAN, and Solvay on a number of strategic acquisitions . She has also advised several clients in the healthcare, financial services, music and technology sectors in relation to a broad range of behavioral issues as well as procedural issues concerning appeals before the EU courts.
Ms McMartin writes extensively on a wide range of topics concerning EU and global antitrust law and policy and is considered a thought leader. She has unique knowledge and perspective on antitrust developments globally.
Ms. McMartin graduated from the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2001, having completed her Erasmus studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin. She received a Postgraduate diploma in EU competition law from King’s College London in 2007.
Ms. McMartin is a native English speaker, fluent in German and also proficient in Dutch and French.
