Jesse Melman is a litigation associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. His practice involves global anti-corruption matters, governmental and internal investigations, and white collar criminal defense.
Mr. Melman has experience representing clients, including major multinational corporations and financial institutions, in connection with their anti-corruption compliance programs. His practice includes participating in internal and governmental investigations, evaluating transactions for corruption risk, and designing and assessing programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with anti-corruption laws. Mr. Melman also has experience advising clients on anti-money laundering regulations and best practices as well as navigating government sanctions programs.
Mr. Melman was a member of the Gibson Dunn trial team that, after a seven-week trial, secured a victory on behalf of Chevron Corporation in a civil RICO and fraud suit, Chevron Corp. v. Donziger, which barred the enforcement of a $9 billion Ecuadorian judgment against Chevron. He also has an extensive pro bono practice, including representing asylum applicants and victims of domestic violence.
Mr. Melman earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2011 from Fordham University School of Law, where he was an associate editor of the Fordham Law Review, a Mary Daly Scholar, a Crowley Scholar in International Human Rights, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
He also received a Master’s Degree in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he was a graduate merit scholar. In 2005, Mr. Melman graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Melman is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
