Todd W. Shaw is an associate in the Dallas office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He was previously based at the firm’s Washington, D.C. office for approximately three years. Mr. Shaw practices in the firm’s Litigation Department, with a particular focus on appellate and constitutional law, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Shaw has represented clients in trial and appellate matters in state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, in a wide range of cases involving the fantasy sports, financial, internet, real estate, and television industries. Mr. Shaw has also assisted clients with state and federal investigations concerning real estate and technology matters. He also maintains an active pro bono practice and has advised or represented a diverse set of clients in matters involving the federal and state constitutions, contract law, and occupational licensing regulations.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Shaw served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ed Carnes, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Mr. Shaw graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University Law School, where he was a John H. Wigmore scholar and elected to the Order of the Coif. He also served as a Managing Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review, a Symposium Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and the Co-President and President Emeritus of the Northwestern Federalist Society. As a second-year law student, Mr. Shaw served as a licensed student lawyer with the Northwestern University Law School Supreme Court Clinic. In that role, he assisted with certiorari and merits stage briefing and, in one of his cases, helped obtain a unanimous decision from the United States Supreme Court that reversed a 400-month federal sentence.
He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Oklahoma State University. Between college and law school, Mr. Shaw served for three years as the research and editorial assistant to nationally syndicated columnist George F. Will.
Mr. Shaw is a member of the bars of Texas and the District of Columbia. His legal scholarship has appeared in several national law reviews, including the Administrative Law Review, the Northwestern University Law Review, and the George Washington University Law Review.
