Ashley N. Van Zelst is an associate in Gibson, Dunn’s Orange County office and practices with the firm’s Litigation Department. Ms. Van Zelst has a particular focus on complex commercial litigation and white collar investigations, and has litigated a wide array of commercial disputes and conducted multiple investigations for national and international organizations.
Ms. Van Zelst is an experienced litigator who handles all aspects of trial, pre-trial, and post-trial proceedings in state and federal courts throughout the country, including mediation and settlement negotiations. In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Van Zelst represents clients in government investigations and enforcement actions, and advises clients in connection with internal audits. She helps guide corporate clients through their business matters, including reviewing and understanding contracts, identifying potential liabilities, understanding and abiding by corporate compliance programs, and properly handling investigations.

Ms. Van Zelst also has an active pro bono practice and is an avid animal activist. She counsels nonprofit organizations in all facets of their business, from drafting contracts to litigating matters in court. Ms. Van Zelst has also handled suits against government agencies, including cases pursuant to Section 1983 for use of excessive force on behalf of imprisoned clients.
Ms. Van Zelst earned her law degree in 2011 from the University of Chicago, where she served as the Vice President of the Latino Law Students Association. She graduated in 2007 from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a Minor in Spanish.
Ms. Van Zelst is a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of Illinois, and is admitted to practice in the Northern District of Illinois.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Ms. Van Zelst was an associate in the Litigation Department of Jenner & Block.
