Los Angeles

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office was founded in 1890 and is the original office of Gibson Dunn.  The firm was founded at the behest of a client who wanted a “full-service” law firm.  Called an “experiment” by the local press, Gibson Dunn became the largest law firm in Los Angeles when the lawyers of Bicknell, Trask and Gibson merged with the practice of former Los Angeles City Attorney William Dunn and former Assistant City Attorney Albert Crutcher.

Today most of our practice areas are represented in the Los Angeles office, including litigation, corporate, real estate, labor and employment, business restructuring and reorganization, environmental, and tax.

The Los Angeles office’s litigation practice covers a broad spectrum, from antitrust and unfair trade practices to international law disputes, bankruptcy litigation, environmental controversies, compliance-related investigations and complex class actions.  Our Los Angeles team includes 15 chairs and co-chairs of Gibson Dunn’s litigation practice groups, leading U.S. appellate and antitrust authorities and some of the most pre-eminent lawyers in their fields.

Our labor and employment group represents clients in cutting-edge, high-stakes employment matters such as wage and hour litigation, discrimination and retaliation as well as class actions.  We work with employers to handle challenging issues in a rapidly changing legal environment, from local disputes to the U.S. Supreme Court.

We routinely advise on virtually every type of corporate and commercial transaction, from M&A, equity and debt offerings to securities regulation, out-of-court workouts and bankruptcies, corporate governance and global finance.  Our collective experience, developed from handling the most complex U.S. and cross-border transactions for the world’s premier companies, is available to every client, regardless of size or stage of development.  In addition, our tax lawyers have over 50 years of serving a diverse group of clients including multinational corporations, start-up ventures and entrepreneurs.

The Los Angeles office’s real estate lawyers handle sophisticated matters in areas ranging from REITS to financing, development, asset ownership, management, leasing, financial workouts, restructurings and bankruptcy cases.  Our extensive capabilities involving land use and real property development draw on our experience assisting clients with highly complex, large-scale development projects.
