Asylum Granted for Young Girl from El Salvador

In October of 2014, Gibson Dunn began representing a 14 year old girl from El Salvador referred to us by KIND. The client had fled her native country after suffering a decade of domestic abuse at the hands of her father. We helped place her and her mother (already residing in the US) into counseling to help each adjust to their new life together. After working with the client for over two years, Angelique Kaounis and Kat Ryzewska submitted an asylum application on her behalf. Additionally, thanks to her counseling, the client was able to speak about her experience with the asylum officer in an open and courageous manner. Our client was granted asylum this April and has blossomed into a mature young woman who is interested in math and art.
