Gibson Dunn Wins Victory for Young Girl from El Salvador

On October 4, 2017, a family court judge in the Los Angeles Superior Court issued a custody order and an order making the predicate findings for our minor client – a young girl from El Salvador – to obtain Special Immigrant Juvenile Status ("SIJS").  These efforts paid off, however, as the judge was initially inclined to deny (or defer granting) relief, but then, upon hearing about our diligent efforts to properly serve the father who is serving time in maximum security prison in El Salvador and include him on the petition, changed her mind—expressing her appreciation during the hearing for these extraordinary measures.  The team will now commence the next steps of filing an I-360 and pursing lawful permanent residence for our client.

The Gibson Dunn team includes Martie Kutscher and Jenn Bracht (who argued), under the supervision of Kahn Scolnick.
