Partner Ferdinand Fromholzer spoke with the Thomson Reuters Institute about the expected timetable for the delayed implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

Ferdinand noted that, due to the European Union’s lengthy legislative process, the CSDDD’s final requirements are unlikely to be defined before early 2026. He explained that the directive must be negotiated and agreed upon by the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council (representing Member States): “Each body needs to develop and present its own proposal, and only after all proposals are on the table, which is expected by the end of October 2025, will the trilateral negotiations begin.”

For the time being, Ferdinand recommends that multinational groups closely monitor developments to be prepared once the amendments to the CSDDD are agreed.
