Discussing the Trump administration’s decision to lift certain export controls as part of a trade deal with China, partner Matt Axelrod told the Dow Jones Risk Journal (subscription required) that the move could risk destabilizing a longstanding norm.
Matt warned that the flexibility shown by the administration could set a precedent in future trade talks. “The problem comes when the Chinese ask the U.S. government in the future to trade away export controls that are longer standing and that are more central to the U.S. national security interests.”
