Partner Armando Albarrán spoke with Law.com International (PDF) about building Gibson Dunn’s Madrid office, launched this year, around a lean, senior team positioned for complex cross-border transactions.
Armando discussed the firm’s focus on assembling “a layer of people that can fly solo” — lawyers with the experience and track record to lead deals from start to finish — and noted that clients increasingly want small, senior teams they can work with day-to-day.
Since our Madrid office opened, the team has advised a consortium of Cinven, KKR, and Providence on the $4.75 billion sale of MasOrange, Merlin Properties on a $900 million accelerated share sale to fund its data center expansion, and the issuer on the European tranche of the SpaceX IPO.
The Madrid office is part of Gibson Dunn’s broader European growth, which includes the expansion of our London office, last year’s launch in Zurich, and continued investment in our European offices.
Looking ahead, Armando told Law.com International: “There’s room for complex, cross-border, transformational transactions. What that means is that there’s space and demand for highly qualified lawyers. And that’s what we are trying to fill.”
