Gibson Dunn Recognized For its Civil and Human Rights Pro Bono Work by NLADA

April 19, 2024

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) has named Gibson Dunn one of its 2024 Beacon of Justice Award recipients, which recognizes honorees “for their efforts to address issues related to civil & human rights.” The award is in recognition of the firm’s substantial pro bono work, including:

  • Winning a historic federal jury verdict for Deon Jones, a peaceful protestor who was subject to police violence following the murder of George Floyd.
  • Defending The Fearless Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides Black women business-owners with charitable grants and mentorship, against a challenge from the American Alliance for Equal Rights.
  • Assisting more than 300 Afghans, including dozens of individuals affiliated with an Afghan national women’s sports team, with their applications for humanitarian parole.
  • Advocating for the constitutional rights of incarcerated individuals, including through the firm’s ongoing partnership with the Innocence Project.

The list of honorees was announced on April 17, 2024.
