Based in Los Angeles, the Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for supporting the Human Resources department in a variety of areas, including building relationships across the firm in order to deliver high-value support in the areas of employee relations, performance management and coaching. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership and act as a liaison between firm personnel and HR functional teams, ensuring employees are connected with the appropriate resources (e.g., Benefits, Leaves of Absence, Payroll, etc.). The Human Resources Business Partner will play a key role in promoting a positive, compliant, and high-performing culture across the firm.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Human Resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Proactively building relationships across the firm to improve working relationships and drive effective performance management practices.
  • Providing guidance and support to effectively resolve complex employee relations issues by conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Providing day-to-day performance management guidance to leaders across the firm (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Serving as a primary HR resource to firm management, department Chiefs, Directors of Administration and firm personnel, responding to questions and inquiries related to firm policies, procedures and employment law.
  • Ensuring consistent application and compliance with firm policies according to applicable local employment laws and regulations.
  • Acting as a liaison for matters related to the day-to-day workflow and operations between Human Resources and other core business units.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for those seeking HR assistance, triaging and routing inquiries efficiently to ensure timely and accurate responses.
  • Conducting staff exit interviews and providing feedback to management.
  • Assisting with the year-end performance review process across the firm.
  • Managing projects and initiatives to support the department’s various processes and systems.
  • Providing support to other areas within the Human Resources department during peak seasons, and on an as-needed basis and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to HR colleagues and contributing to continuous improvement of HR processes and employee experience.

Qualifications

  • Capable of maintaining confidence of personal and highly sensitive information.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment with the ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the firm, along with managing productive working relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with demonstrated professionalism and accountability.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent relevant work experience required.
  • Minimum of four to six years of work experience in a Human Resources department at a law firm or other professional services organization strongly desired.
  • Experience with managing employee relations matters either directly or in a supporting role required.
  • Proven ability to provide consultative support to senior leaders and manage complex employee relations issues.
  • Completion or ongoing pursuit of a Professional Human Resources certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits practices and principles, as well as general knowledge of employment laws and regulations and data privacy laws.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $110 – 130k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
