Manager, Business Development – Transactional

Based in New York, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving the business development and visibility initiatives and priorities for the Investment Funds, Tax, Emerging Companies/Venture Capital practices, as well as other transactional related practices/industries and lawyers as needed.
For the Funds practice including GP Solutions/Secondaries, Tax and Emerging Companies, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for providing guidance and input on business planning (including target lists, high impact client relationships, publishing and speaking opportunities, and all other related initiatives). Along with other team members, including but not limited to the Global Proposals Team, this position will lead on related pitches and RFPs ensuring that the firm is strategic in its approach to winning new business. This role will also work closely with business development colleagues to lead cross-practice initiatives, contribute to team infrastructure, and all other strategic projects as needed.
This role reports to the Director of Business Development, Transactional and is supported by a Business Development Senior Coordinator.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the overall business development and marketing efforts for assigned practices and/or regions, as well as providing support for individual partner business objectives.
- Supporting the practices’ key client efforts and working with colleagues to ensure the identification, development, and growth of high-value clients.
- Managing the preparation of pitches, RFPs (with the RFP proposals team), and other client-facing materials, including leading strategy sessions, internal debriefs, and tracking outcomes.
- Spearheading the drafting and maintenance of practice-specific marketing materials and collateral, including deal lists and the collection of relevant matters.
- Leading relevant directory submissions including Chambers, Legal 500, and IFLR, as well as contributing to the drafting of relevant award submissions.
- Collaborating with functional managers on relevant visibility and speaking opportunities, communications, recognition, and digital marketing initiatives.
- Planning and overseeing seminars, events (with the client events team), and other targeted marketing activities.
- Proactively driving experience collection and contributing to the submission of league tables.
- Assisting the Director with team management (including direct management of one report) and contributing to the development and advancement of junior marketing team members.
Qualifications
- Exceptional professional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with lawyers at varying levels, including firm leadership.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong project management and time management skills.
- Solid understanding of the needs and expectations of law firms and the ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and many constituents.
- Ability to work under pressure.

- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work outside business hours and occasional travel as needed.
Experience
- University degree.
- 5-7 years of experience in professional services, legal preferred.
- 2+ years of team management experience preferred.
- Experience with strategic business development planning and pitching, with transactional knowledge preferred.
- Exceptional in Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Word PowerPoint).

Compensation & Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $160-175k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
