BIOGRAPHY

Benoît Fleury is a French qualified partner in the Paris office of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, and a member of the firm’s Corporate Transactions, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Business Restructuring Practice Groups.

Mr. Fleury’s practice focuses on one hand on corporate and commercial law (and in particular, securities-related transactions) and on the other, restructuring work.

He regularly advises European and US companies in connection with mergers and acquisitions, which often involve innovative aspects of securities law. He is also involved in some of the most complex recent restructuring matters (mandat ad hoc, conciliation and safeguard), representing both debtors and creditors, notably institutional shareholders and portfolio companies and funds that he also advises in connection with their strategic investments and day-to-day operations. His practice also includes advising hedge funds in relation to their investments.

Legal 500 EMEA 2022 recognizes Mr. Fleury as a “key lawyer” for Mergers & Acquisitions. He is also recommended by Chambers Europe where sources highlight he “has experience assisting clients with corporate reorganizations and insolvency proceedings” and is “really smart, always available, works quickly and has good business sense”. They appreciate his “straightforward style and clever strategies”. He is a “down-to-earth, commercial, no-nonsense lawyer” and “an astute analyst of critical judicial situations in the bankruptcy field, [that] turns things around very fast whilst providing great advice”. The directory mentioned that he is “highly regarded” and described him as “very proactive and client-oriented.” Legal 500 EMEA 2019 also praised him for Insurance (band 3 : “an excellent lawyer” ). Sources say “Fleury is very strong, reactive and commercial.” Previous editions praised his “responsiveness, dedication and negotiation skills” and referred to him as “patient, able to explain everything and ready to hear what we have to say.” Best Lawyers in France (2011-2023) has also consistently recommended him for Corporate law, as well as Insolvency and Reorganization Law. French business magazine Le Magazine Des Affaires also selected him as a “rising star” among the new generation of top French corporate partners.

Mr. Fleury graduated from University Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense with a master’s degree in 1996, after having received a diploma from business school EDHEC (École de Hautes Etudes Commerciales du Nord) in 1993. Mr. Fleury teaches corporate law at EDHEC business school, having taught for three years at Evry University. He frequently writes on topical legal issues.

Mr. Fleury is fluent in English.
