Meghan Sherley is an associate in Gibson Dunn’s Orange County office, where she is a member of the firm’s Securities Regulation and Corporate Governance Practice Group.
Meghan advises public companies in a variety of industries on ESG, compliance, and general corporate law matters. Her practice includes assisting clients with annual shareholder meetings (including the Rule 14a-8 shareholder proposal process, director and officer questionnaires, and drafting proxy statement disclosure in compliance with stock exchange, proxy advisory firm, and investor policies), financial reporting and compliance, and ESG and sustainability reporting. She writes and presents on these topics, including on trends and developments in human capital management disclosures.
Meghan’s pro bono engagements include advising nonprofit entities and small businesses on a variety of compliance, governance, and transactional matters.
Meghan earned her law degree, summa cum laude, in 2020 from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she served as Articles Research Editor for the San Diego Law Review and as Research Assistant to Professor Mark Lee. George B. Adams is of counsel in the San Francisco office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the Firm’s Securities Litigation Practice Group.
George’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on the representation of companies and their officers and directors in securities class actions, merger and acquisition disputes, and shareholder derivative litigation alleging breaches of fiduciary duties. - Progenity: Defending company and senior officers in securities class action arising out of the company’s IPO. Secured dismissal of all claims before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
- Fluor: Representing company in shareholder class action before the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon alleging breach of contract and quasi-contract claims.
- Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings: Represented four members of the company’s board of directors in securities action before the Delaware Court of Chancery arising from a proxy contest initiated by the company’s executive chairman. Gibson Dunn secured dismissal of all claims and our clients prevailed in the proxy contest.
- Defended technology company in purported securities class action asserting misrepresentations and omissions in connection with initial public offering.

Wynne Leahy is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She practices in the firm’s Litigation Department with a particular focus on white collar defense investigations, food and drug regulatory matters, and complex commercial litigation. Wynne has experience representing multinational companies in investigations conducted by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Congress, and other regulatory and enforcement agencies. She has conducted internal investigations involving alleged violations of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and False Claims Act.

Alexandria Johnson is a corporate associate in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where she currently practices in the firm’s Capital Markets Group.
Ms. Johnson’s practice includes the representation of foreign and domestic issuers and underwriters in equity and debt offerings, including IPOs and secondary public offerings. She also advises clients on a wide variety of general corporate and securities law matters, including corporate governance and disclosure issues.
Ms. Johnson earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2017. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 2014, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations.

Eric A. Menist is an associate in the New York office and part of the IP litigation group.
Eric focuses on patent litigation, and hybrid cases involving patents and other IP related disputes, such as trademark infringement and ownership, unfair competition, and other commercial claims. For patent cases, Eric immerses himself in the technology and translates it to themes easily understood by the court and jury. Eric also has particularized trademark litigation experience dealing with business divorces and trademark ownership disputes. Eric’s diverse litigation background allows him to handle complex cases involving multiple types of related IP and commercial claims to help resolve each client’s diverse business needs unique to their case.
Eric has represented companies in the software, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, consumer products, and cosmetics industries, including Amazon, Intuit, Lumileds, Almirall, Lashify, Novo Nordisk, and UCB Pharma.
Eric primarily handles cases at the U.S. International Trade Commission in Section 337 investigations and federal courts around the country, including in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, District of Delaware, Western District of Texas, and Central and Southern Districts of California. Eric also assists with matters at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes and post grant reviews, both for patent owners and challengers.
Eric has also counseled on a range of non-litigation matters, such as patent prosecution, trademark and copyright clearance and procurement, due diligence of IP for corporate transactions, licensing of IP, and other commercial contracts. Eric’s knowledge about how issues may resolve before the court help him devise strategies that try to avoid potential pitfalls should future litigation become necessary.
Eric also has represented clients in various pro bono matters for individuals in need, including litigation defending constitutional rights and securing immigration protection.
Eric graduated with honors, including valedictorian, order of the coif, and summa cum laude, and was a senior editor for the Rutgers University Law Review. While in school, Eric worked full time as a litigation paralegal and law clerk at a boutique IP firm in New York, assisting with IP litigation and procurement. Before law school, Eric was a paralegal at a boutique commercial firm in New York, working on both litigation and transactional matters focused on franchising and its related commercial and real estate aspects.
Representative Litigations
- Won rare summary judgment of no willful patent infringement for Amazon before Judge Albright in the Western District of Texas, effectively removing unsubstantiated assertions of alleged bad acts from the case and jury trial.
- Represented Lashify, Inc. in a hybrid IP case against competitor Urban Doll in the Central District of California involving patents, trademarks, false advertising, unfair competition, and tortious interference. Obtained a preliminary injunction against defendants for use of Lashify’s trademark; crafted complex tortious interference and unfair competition claims that survived multiple motions to dismiss; and obtained favorable claim construction.
- Represented Lashify, Inc. in hybrid patent and false advertising cases against overseas manufacturers in the Western District of Texas and obtained a favorable claim construction.
- Represented Shinmax Indus. Co. in a hybrid patent, trademark, unfair competition, and cyberpiracy case related to the parties’ business divorce and IP ownership disputes in the Central District of California. Won landslide claim construction victory and secured highly favorable settlement for Shinmax.
- Assisted Intuit’s appeal victory at the Ninth Circuit regarding the validity and enforcement of its online TurboTax software terms and conditions. The Circuit Court held customers assented to the browsewrap conditions and remanded the case to the district court to compel arbitration.
- Tried and won high-profile patent case for Lumileds before the U.S. International Trade Commission for claims involving semiconductor light-emitting diodes. The Commission held Lumileds did not infringe the patents, and that certain patents were invalid for lack of priority and anticipated by the on sale bar. Assisted with the Federal Circuit appeal resulting in dismissal, a settlement, and complete victory for Lumileds.
- Represented transgender inmate against the California Department of Corrections in the Eastern District of California involving constitutional protections provided by the First, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments for failure to provide her with proper medical treatment, including gender reassignment surgery. Survived the Court’s mandatory inmate complaint screening, obtained a favorable settlement, and helped the individual receive her necessary surgery.

Joseph Evall is a litigation partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a member of Gibson Dunn’s Litigation, Intellectual Property, Life Sciences, Product Liability, and FDA and Healthcare Practice Groups.
Joseph primarily litigates cases that involve complex science and technology, including patent lawsuits, product liability actions, and commercial disputes, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical, biotech, and chemical patent litigation. Joseph has led successful courtroom challenges to “junk science,” with his examination and cross-examination of expert witnesses resulting in significant client victories. In 2016, litigation on which he was co-lead counsel was recognized by LMG as the most significant Hatch-Waxman case of the year. In 2017, he received a “Research In Action” Award from Treatment Action Group, a research and policy think tank in New York, for his work defeating an “HIV denialism” lawsuit. Joseph’s training in science included laboratory research in physical chemistry and DNA technology; one article on self-assembled monolayers (J. Am. Chem. Soc., 111, 321 (1989)) was featured in the 125th anniversary issue of the Journal of the American Chemical Society as the 50th most cited paper to date.
Joseph works closely with organizations that promote diversity in the legal profession. He is a member of the Board of the Lesbian and Gay Lawyers of New York Foundation, and was previously on the board of a non-profit organization that provides housing and social services to LGBT youth, and another that combats violence against LGBT people. Joseph has been honored for his work on diversity and inclusion, including a 2010 award by the LGBT Rights Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He leads the Diversity Committee of Gibson Dunn’s New York office.
Joseph graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1982 and received a master’s degree in Physical Chemistry from Harvard in 1984. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1990. Patent Litigation
- Nalco v. Wisconsin Public Service Corp. (W.D. Wis.); Nalco v. Wisconsin Power and Light Comp. (W.D. Wis.): Represent defendants in patent infringement suits relating to method for reducing mercury in flue gas emissions from coal-burning power plants; Nalco v. Chem-Mod et al. (N.D.Ill.): Represented defendant in case dismissed by plaintiff after four years of litigation.
- Ferring v. Allergan et al. (S.D.N.Y.): Defended Allergan against inventorship challenge to patents directed to low-dose desmopressin products. See 932 F. Supp.2d 493 (2013)(dismissing all 14 state law claims); 4 F.Supp.3d 612 (2014)(denying motion for leave to file a second amended complaint); 253 F.Supp.3d 708 (2015)(dismissing plaintiffs’ inventorship claims as barred by equitable estoppel); 166 F.Supp.3d 415 (2016)(permitting trial of inventorship counterclaims directed to plaintiffs’ patents).
- Sanofi-Aventis v. Eli Lilly and Co. (D.Del.): Represented Sanofi in a 505(b)(2) Hatch-Waxman lawsuit concerning its diabetes treatment, Lantus SoloSTAR, one of the best-selling drug products in the world. The morning of trial, Lilly stipulated to infringement, an injunction, and royalties. In 2016, LMG recognized the litigation—which involved patents on formulations and delivery devices—as the Hatch-Waxman Litigation Impact Case of the Year.
- Isis Pharmaceutical v. Santaris Pharma A/S (S.D. Cal.): Represented defendants in patent lawsuit involving drugs based on LNA (locked nucleic acid) antisense oligonucleotides; secured dismissal of claims premised on alleged sale or offer for sale of patented methods.
- Medicis v. Actavis (D. Del.): Represented plaintiff in Hatch-Waxman lawsuit concerning patented topical dermatological gel formulation.
- Alcon Laboratories. Represented Alcon in three patent infringement cases involving glaucoma medications. The technical issues involved organic chemistry, ocular anatomy and physiology, solution chemistry, and statistics. Each case settled on favorable terms just before trial.*
- Chemical Manufacturing Process. Defended an agricultural products company in an E.D. Tenn. patent infringement lawsuit directed to a process used in manufacturing cyclohexanedione herbicides. Summary judgment of non-infringement was affirmed on appeal.*
- Other Patent Matters. Joseph has also developed patent, litigation, IPR, and regulatory strategies, and handled litigation and appeals, in matters involving novel “NCE” drug substances; microalgae; pharmaceutical formulations; real-time weather systems for insurers; DVR “time-shift” technology; screen printing machines for fabricating circuit boards; biologics; oligosaccharides and carbohydrates; PCR; silicon carbide crystals; polymers; and transgenic crops. He has advised clients and represented parties in the mediation and arbitration of disputes concerning patent licenses and drug development agreements.
Product Liability Litigation
- Vaccines. Joseph directed the efforts relating to expert witnesses and scientific and medical issues in defending hundreds of cases alleging that routinely-administered vaccines caused some children to develop autism. In one Maryland case, he handled five expert witnesses in a ten-day Frye hearing that resulted in the preclusion of all of plaintiffs’ expert witnesses from testifying, and the dismissal of the case. The Court of Appeals of Maryland affirmed the decision in May 2009, leading scores of other Maryland plaintiffs with similar claims to dismiss their cases. An earlier Daubert hearing in the E.D.Tx, was also successful. *
- Prop 65. Joseph won a one-week trial in California Superior Court in People v. Altaire, establishing that the presence of the preservatives thimerosal and phenylmercuric acetate in certain nasal spray products did not create an obligation to include Proposition 65 warnings. This case was the first in California to establish a maximum allowable dose level under Proposition 65, and the first defense trial victory in a Prop 65 case brought by the California Attorney General.*
- Other Product Cases. Joseph has defended against product liability claims directed to a variety of products ranging from manufacturing equipment to the earliest cases involving talc, and participated in a successful appeal challenging the restructuring of a mass tort settlement trust.*
Commercial Litigation
Many of Joseph’s cases involve complex commercial disputes relating to joint venture agreements, joint development agreements, patent licenses, and other contractual rights. He defended telecommunications companies against a putative class action challenging their management of nationwide cellular markets, and against an Article 78 claim challenging a large service contract. He was a member of the team representing the co-owners of the largest oil refinery in Germany in an eight-week trial before the International Chamber of Commerce.
Pro Bono Matters
Joseph leads a team of attorneys representing dozens of LGBT persons seeking asylum in the United States, and supervises all of the office’s matters involving name-change applications brought by transgender people. He is leading a team challenging New York’s regulations permitting familial DNA searching of the State’s DNA databank. He recently represented a Muslim inmate in a religious freedom challenge to accommodations provided during Ramadan. In a case involving “HIV denialism,” Joseph obtained summary judgment dismissing defamation claims brought by a journalist against his client, a well-known AIDS policy expert, a ruling unanimously affirmed on appeal. Farber v. Jefferys, 941 N.Y.S.2d 537 (N.Y.Sup. 2011), aff’d, 103 A.D.2d 514 (1st Dept. 2013). Joseph has obtained the dismissal of libel claims brought against a non-profit LGBT services organization, and another victory on behalf of that client that vindicated the right to provide rape crisis services in New York State without fear of suit.

Nicole Waddick is an associate in the San Francisco office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She currently practices in the firm’s Litigation Department.
Nicole earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she graduated Order of the Coif. While at Berkeley, Nicole was the Senior Submissions Editor of the Berkeley Journal of International Law. Nicole was a student leader of the International Human Rights Workshop and spent three semesters in the International Human Rights Law Clinic. Nicole’s pro bono practice includes international human rights, immigration, and civil matters.
Nicole graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, with a B.A. in Political Science.
Nicole is admitted to practice in California and the Northern District of California.
Milene Minassians is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She practices in the firm’s Litigation Department.
Milene earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California Davis, School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Merit and Academic Excellence Scholarship recipient. While in law school, Milene served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Marsha Berzon of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and for Judge Laurel Beeler of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Milene also served as co-chair of King Hall’s Moot Court Honor’s Board.
Prior to attending law school, Milene received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & International Relations from UC Berkeley.
Milene is a member of the California Bar. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Jordan Rose is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, as well as the Labor & Employment, Crisis Management, and White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Groups.
Jordan has helped multinational companies across a variety of industries conduct internal investigations, respond to regulatory inquiries, and litigate complex commercial matters. Her cross-disciplinary practice includes experience with employment, consumer protection, cybersecurity and data privacy, securities, sports, and anti-corruption laws.
She graduated from New York University School of Law and New York University Stern School of Business with her JD/MBA in 2021 where she served as Co-Chair of the Law School’s Black Law Students Association. Jordan graduated summa cum laude from Spelman College in 2017, where she received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
Jordan is admitted to practice in the State of California.
Elise Blegen is a litigation associate in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
She received her Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as Symposium Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.
She graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at New York University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Anthropology. At NYU, she was a Presidential Honors Scholar and received the Department of Anthropology Prize.
She is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
