Partner Ted Boutrous has been honored by the Daily Journal with its inaugural Distinguished Counsel award. The new distinction, introduced by the publication in conjunction with its 2025 Top 100 Lawyers in California list, honors lawyers “whose consistent excellence and enduring influence in California’s legal community have earned them a place among the Top 100 lawyers for 15 years or more” and who “continue to shape both the legal field and the broader world in meaningful ways.”
“These attorneys have demonstrated, year after year, that they are operating at the very highest level of California’s legal profession — one of the most dynamic, complex, and globally influential in the world,” wrote the Daily Journal.
To introduce the Distinguished Counsel award, the Daily Journal launched a series of short videos featuring the award winners. In his Distinguished Counsel video, Ted describes having to make a split-second courtroom decision while representing CNN and its reporter Jim Acosta, whose press pass had been revoked by the first Trump administration.
Ted has represented clients in federal and state appellate courts across the U.S. in a wide spectrum of cases. He has argued hundreds of appeals, including before the U.S. Supreme Court, 12 different federal circuit courts of appeals, and 11 different state supreme courts.
