Speaking with Law.com [PDF] as part of their “How I Made Practice Group Chair” series, partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Energy Regulation and Litigation Practice Group Tory Lauterbach discussed her approach to success in her role: “It all happens in a flow. When you’re thinking about how best to serve a client, you’re thinking about who to staff on the deal. When you’re staffing the deal, you’re thinking about which skills you want a member of the team to have the chance to build. And once you’re thinking about the skills your people are developing, you’re thinking about who you should be telling about that talent. So it moves naturally from client work to mentorship and management to marketing.”
She also shared advice for others looking to become a practice group leader. “The biggest lesson I’ve taken from this: you don’t have to wait for a title to lead,” she said. “We often wait to be given permission to step into our best role—our power, our fullest selves. I don’t think you have to wait.”
