In a horizon-scanning Legal Business (subscription required) article, leading private equity and M&A lawyers share their views on the direction of global private equity M&A deals.

 Partner Will McDonald told the publication that the outlook for private equity-backed M&A activity in 2026 is positive following a surge of market activity in the second half of last year. “That there is large-scale M&A in the US doesn’t definitely mean things are about to go gangbusters but it’s a pretty good sign,” Will said. “I’d be more positive about a general increase in the market, rather than spikiness. People will be shrewd and selective for sure, but I think within that context, everyone is a bit more willing to get deals over the line.”
