Bloomberg Law (subscription required) reported on the alleged difficulties that U.S. Internal Revenue Service examiners have recently faced cracking down on taxpayers’ use of partnerships and other so-called passthrough entities to get more, and bigger, deductions. Eric Sloan, co-chair of our Tax Practice Group, was interviewed about the IRS’s pullback on partnerships.
The publication noted that the pullback could be a result of IRS efforts to address criticism of the unit and cope with fewer resources. Eric said the IRS is “taking a pause and saying, ‘You know, we need to rethink our approach.’”
Eric also said that IRS teams working on the partnership-related exams of some of his clients “have seen wholesale change,” in the form of “massive turnover.”
