Partner Jane Horvath is quoted in Bloomberg Law’s (subscription required) “Tech Firms Welcome Federal AI Regulatory Oversight, With Limits.” She said that a monitoring body to vet frontier AI models could be helpful if its mandate is narrow and well-defined: “People keep saying AI needs to be regulated, but it’s actually regulated in financial services, healthcare. In my area of privacy, there are actual regulations.”
Jane added that the Trump administration will have to weigh whether regulations hobble smaller companies. “If it drifts towards licensing, mandatory audits and examination authority, then you will have built a moat for the incumbents,” she said. “The test for any proposed requirement would be whether a 10-person AI company can comply without a team of lawyers. If the answer is no, then the requirement is probably about market structure and not consumer protection.”
