Based in New York or Washington, D.C., the Azure DevOps Administrator will be responsible for the configuration, administration, optimization, and governance of the firm’s developer tooling ecosystem, including Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, CI/CD pipelines, code repositories, and automation capabilities.

The Enterprise Application Solutions team supports and modernizes the firm’s application ecosystem, development tooling, and automation platforms. This role ensures that development teams have consistent, well-managed, and compliant tooling that supports modern engineering practices. The ideal candidate combines strong technical administration skills with secure DevOps practices, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, security, and infrastructure teams.

We are seeking an Azure DevOps Administrator to own and enhance our developer tooling environment, ensuring that engineering teams have a secure, scalable, and reliable platform for modern software delivery. This is a technical platform administration role, not a developer position, focused on stability, security, automation, legacy migration/conversion and enablement.

Key platforms include:

  • Azure DevOps: Repos, Pipelines, Boards, Artifacts, Test Plans
  • GitHub Enterprise: Repos, Branch protections, Actions, Packages
  • CI/CD Tooling: YAML pipelines, runners/agents, release automation
  • Cloud & Identity: Azure, Entra ID, service connections, key vaults
  • Automation & Scripting: PowerShell, REST APIs, DevOps CLI, GitHub CLI

This role reports to the Manager of Application Development.

Responsibilities include:

Platform Administration & Configuration

  • Administer and optimize Azure DevOps organizations, projects, repositories, pipelines, and agent pools.
  • Configure GitHub Enterprise settings, branches, protections, identity integrations, and security controls.
  • Maintain and govern CI/CD pipelines, build templates, variable groups, and release automation.
  • Ensure reliable operation of build agents, runners, self-hosted agents, and integrations.
  • Create and maintain project templates, repository policies, and standardized branching strategies.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Manage permissions, access controls, service connections, and environment restrictions across all tooling.
  • Enforce code security and compliance policies (branch protections, secrets management, PR controls).
  • Partner with Security & Infrastructure teams to ensure alignment with firm standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement secure DevOps practices, including least-privilege access, artifact governance, and pipeline hardening.

Developer Enablement & Support

  • Train and coach development teams on best practices for source control, branching, pipelines, and automation.
  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for Azure DevOps and GitHub issues, including pipelines, builds, deployments, and tooling errors.
  • Create documentation, runbooks, onboarding guides, and knowledge articles for consistent tool adoption.
  • Support teams migrating/converting from legacy tooling into Azure DevOps or GitHub Enterprise.

Automation & Optimization

  • Build and maintain scripts, automations, and utilities using PowerShell, CLI, and REST APIs.
  • Standardize reusable pipeline templates and YAML libraries for consistent builds and deployments.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline developer workflows, reduce manual steps, and improve productivity.
  • Optimize performance of builds, pipelines, agent pools, and repository structures

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, QA, information security, infrastructure, and application teams to support delivery workflows.
  • Partner with the Agile Delivery Leads to align tooling capabilities with delivery goals and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with cloud, network, and security teams on connectivity, authentication, and environment configuration.
  • Coordinate with vendors and Microsoft support as needed for escalations and troubleshooting.

Monitoring, Maintenance & Reporting

  • Monitor platform health, pipeline performance, agent utilization, and repository status.
  • Maintain logs, audit trails, and operational documentation for compliance and platform management.
  • Produce reporting and dashboards on usage, performance, reliability, and governance status.
  • Support lifecycle management, upgrades, licenses, and backlog improvements for all tooling.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Azure DevOps services: Repos, Pipelines, Artifacts, Boards, Test Plans.
  • Experience configuring GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, runners, and repository governance.
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, YAML, REST API).
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services, Entra ID/identity management, service principals, and Key Vault.
  • Knowledge of build automation for .NET, Node.js, SPFx, Power Platform, or similar stacks.
  • Understanding of secure DevOps principles, software supply chain security, and secrets management.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps administration, system administration, cloud operations, or engineering support.
  • Hands-on experience administering Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Enterprise in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting development teams using CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and automation tools.
  • Microsoft certifications (AZ-400, AZ-104, AZ-305, SC-300).
  • Experience with GitHub Advanced Security, dependency scanning, or code scanning tools.
  • Experience supporting legal, financial, or regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with ITIL, service management practices, or change control processes.

Compensation & Benefits:

The hourly compensation rate for this position is $67-81/hr. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
