Based in New York, the Content Director will build a global, best-in-class, content function for Gibson Dunn. This leader will combine strategic vision, content excellence, and operational discipline to elevate the firm’s market presence worldwide.

This role reports to the Chief Client Experience & Communications Officer and will collaborate with colleagues across all legal and professional functions worldwide.

Responsibilities include:

Content Strategy & Brand Narrative

  • Develop a cohesive, multichannel content strategy aligned with brand, business, and communications objectives.
  • Shape and steward the firm’s global brand narrative across thought leadership, communications, and integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Create and implement messaging frameworks that ensure consistency and audience relevance across channels and formats.

Editorial Leadership

  • Lead creation of high-quality, compelling content that translates complex ideas into clear, engaging stories.
  • Establish and maintain editorial tone, voice, and style standards across all channels and regions.
  • Develop and communicate guidelines to ensure alignment and quality across 22 offices worldwide.

Thought Leadership Development

  • Direct the firm’s global thought leadership programs, including client communications and profile-building content.
  • Build and manage a thought leadership calendar and channel strategy to extend reach and impact.

Video & Podcast Content

  • Develop and lead the firm’s video and podcast content strategy to expand engagement and thought leadership reach.
  • Build a small, agile internal team responsible for managing external production partners—sourcing, selecting, and onboarding best-in-class video providers.
  • Oversee end-to-end processes, including concept development, scripting, production, and distribution, ensuring all content aligns with brand standards and delivers measurable impact.

AI-Driven Content Innovation

  • Leverage advanced AI tools and technologies to enhance content creation, personalization, and distribution.
  • Explore and implement AI-driven solutions for automated content generation, and audience segmentation—ensuring the firm remains at the forefront of digital innovation.
  • Integrate AI into workflows to optimize efficiency and elevate storytelling.

Integrated Campaigns & Channel Strategy

  • Partner with communications, design, digital, and social teams to deliver integrated campaigns that support firm priorities.
  • Ensure cohesive, channel-appropriate content across digital, social, print, and event platforms.

Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Implement and oversee content systems and processes, including a CMS, to support development, approval, and governance.
  • Establish best practices for content calendars, version control, and analytics to ensure efficiency and quality across regions.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of content strategists, writers, editors, and external contributors.
  • Lead resource planning, talent development, and performance management.

Analytics, Optimization, & Innovation

  • Use performance data to evaluate and optimize content effectiveness, engagement, and conversion.
  • Partner with Marketing Technology on dashboards and KPI reporting for leadership insight.
  • Drive innovation in storytelling and content delivery through emerging tools and formats (AI, video, interactive media, personalization).

  • Brand Stewardship – Deep understanding of brand voice, positioning, and global consistency.
  • Operational Expertise – Experience building scalable content processes, governance, and tools.
  • Data-Driven Mindset – Ability to interpret metrics and apply insights to refine strategies.
  • Project Management– Skilled at prioritizing, planning, and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Exceptional ability to partner with executives, lawyers, and cross-functional professional stakeholders.
  • Innovation Orientation – Curiosity and adaptability in evolving content trends, technologies, and channels. Adept at exploring and implementing AI-driven solutions.
  • Team Development – Track record of inspiring and developing a team of content creators.

Experience

  • 15+ years in content creation, management, and marketing, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in a legal, professional services, or B2B environment is strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $280-325k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
