Caroline M.L. Black

Associate Attorney

Caroline Black is a litigation associate in the New York office of Gibson Dunn and a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group.

Caroline advises clients across the full range of antitrust matters, with a focus on compliance counseling and merger and non-merger investigations before the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice. She also litigates complex private antitrust disputes. Her work spans a wide range of industries, including technology, consumer goods, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, industrials, energy, and financial services.

  • A major software and services company in an ongoing trade secrets and antitrust dispute
  • A heavy-duty truck manufacturer in a federal antitrust investigation regarding the Clean Truck Partnership
  • RPX Corp. in an antitrust/IP dispute brought by Xockets, alleging software licensing collusion with Microsoft and NVIDIA
  • Guardant Health in connection with Illumina’s $8 billion acquisition of GRAIL
  • A large technology company in its acquisition of a semiconductor startup
  • American Express Company in its $400 million acquisition of Tock from Squarespace
  • EchoStar Corporation, parent company of DISH Network Corporation, in its $256 million divestiture of certain Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands spectrum assets to Liberty Latin America Ltd.
  • Fiserv, Inc. in its $650 million acquisition of Finxact
  • Seagen in its $43 billion acquisition by Pfizer
  • SunTrust in its $66 billion merger of equals with BB&T

Caroline maintains an active role in the Antitrust bar and is a leader in the ABA's Antitrust Section.

Caroline previously clerked at the General Court of the European Union, where she worked on novel competition law cases. Caroline received her law degree from Columbia Law School.

Caroline is a member of the New York and California bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California; and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
