Alejandro Espitia is Of Counsel in Gibson Dunn’s New York office and a member of the firm’s Structured Finance and Energy and Infrastructure Practice Groups. He advises sponsors, developers, financial investors, banks, initial purchasers and placement agents on the development and financing of energy and digital infrastructure in the United States and internationally.
Alejandro has significant experience financing energy and infrastructure projects in the private credit and bank lending markets, the capital markets and hybrid transactions. He has worked on financings for data centers, behind-the-meter and utility-scale power, solar, wind and battery storage, LNG export facilities, pipelines, FPSOs, rail, stadiums, toll roads and metro systems. Particularly, he has experience with the structures increasingly used to finance large-scale compute and energy platforms, including construction-to-term and warehouse facilities, Section 4(a)(2) private placements, Rule 144A/Reg S project bonds and securitization take-outs, and he writes on data center finance, including how hyperscale lease terms drive project bond ratings.
Having worked on both the legal and the front-office side of project finance, Alejandro brings a lender’s and an originator’s perspective to the transactions he advises on. He began his career in the Project Development and Finance practice of Clifford Chance in New York and Madrid and was later an associate at Latham & Watkins. He then spent nearly five years on the bank side, first as a Vice President in project bond origination at Crédit Agricole CIB and then as Senior Legal Counsel in the Infrastructure Finance (Americas) group of HSBC, where he acted as structurer and principal legal adviser to the U.S. and Mexico infrastructure financing businesses. Alejandro has worked alongside Gianluca Bacchiocchi for more than 10 years.
