Capital Markets Partners Steve Thierbach and Chris Haynes Join Gibson Dunn’s London Office

​Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Chris Haynes and Steve Thierbach will join the London office as partners.  Both were previously with Herbert Smith Freehills in London, where Thierbach served as Global Head of Capital Markets.  At Gibson Dunn, they will continue their equity capital markets practice.

About Steve Thierbach

Thierbach has a broad cross-border equity and debt capital markets transactions practice.  A U.S. qualified lawyer, he advises issuers and underwriters on complex, innovative and multi-jurisdictional offerings.  He has represented companies and investment banks in major financial centers and developing markets. 

Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Thierbach practised with Herbert Smith Freehills since 2010, most recently serving as the Global Head of the Capital Markets Practice.  Before that, he was a partner with Linklaters in London from 1995 from 2010, where he co-led the capital markets practice and served as head of the U.S. practice.  He was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and London from 1987 to 1995.

Thierbach is recognized as one of the top equity capital markets lawyers in London by Chambers and Partners and as a leading individual in London equity capital markets by the Legal 500.  He graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1987.

About Chris Haynes

Haynes is a corporate partner focusing on equity capital markets transactions and mergers and acquisitions.  He has extensive experience advising companies and investment banks on initial public offerings, rights issues and other equity offerings, as well as on corporate and securities law and regulation.  He also advises on public and private mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.

Haynes joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 1998 and has been a partner since 2002.  Prior to that, he worked at a leading New Zealand firm, Bell Gully from 1995.  He is recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and IFLR1000.

He earned his LL.B. with honors and BCom from the University of Auckland in 1995 and was admitted as a solicitor in New Zealand in 1995 and in England in 2001.
