The American Lawyer – Litigation Department of the Year

The American Lawyer has named Gibson Dunn the winner of its biennial “Litigation Department of the Year” competition. The firm was also named a finalist in the White Collar/Regulatory Department of the Year.

In its January 2020 cover story, The American Lawyer recognized Gibson Dunn’s litigation department as the “best of the best” and reported that “what sets Gibson Dunn apart is how its cases routinely check all those boxes: enormous financial stakes, unsettled legal questions and a nexus to major national issues.” Underscoring the firm’s unique abilities to challenge and change public policy, the publication remarked that the “quintessential” Gibson Dunn case is “high-profile, high-impact and high-stakes” and the “quintessential” Gibson Dunn result as “a gigantic win, delivered under pressure, with lasting significance,” and “[t]he firm’s combination of discipline and savvy keeps clients coming back.”

This is Gibson Dunn’s fourth win in the last six of The American Lawyer‘s biennial “Litigation Department of the Year” competitions and the sixth time in a row that Gibson Dunn has been a finalist — both unprecedented achievements. (December 2019)

Law360 named Gibson Dunn a Firm of the Year for 2019, in its article, “The Firms That Dominated in 2019,” featuring seven firms that received the most Practice Group of the Year awards.  Of the seven, Gibson Dunn is one of two firms with the most winning Practice Groups of the Year.  Gibson Dunn was named a Practice Group of the Year in eight categories – Appellate, Class Action, Cybersecurity & Privacy, International Arbitration, Real Estate, Sports & Betting, Technology and Trials.  (January 2020)

National Law Journal – D.C. Labor & Employment Litigation Department of the Year

In its 2020 D.C. Litigation Department of the Year contest, The National Law Journal named Gibson Dunn as the winner in the Labor & Employment category.  This is the firm’s fourth consecutive win in this category.  (May 2020)

Chambers and Partners

In its 2020 edition, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business awarded Gibson Dunn 84 first-tier rankings, of which 31 were firm practice group rankings and 53 were individual lawyer rankings.  Overall, the firm earned 302 rankings – 84 firm practice group rankings and 218 individual lawyer rankings.

In the 2020 edition of Chambers Global, Gibson Dunn earned 155 total rankings – 56 firm practice group rankings and 99 individual rankings. The firm and its lawyers were recognized globally and in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Middle East regions, with additional recognitions in Belgium, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.  Chambers Europe 2020 awarded Gibson Dunn 32 rankings: 24 individual rankings and eight practice group rankings.  Chambers Latin America 2020 recognized Gibson Dunn with two individual rankings and one top-tier firm ranking.  The 2020 edition of Chambers UK recognized Gibson Dunn with 16 individual rankings and four firm rankings.  Gibson Dunn earned 16 firm rankings and 21 individual rankings in the 2020 edition of Chambers Asia Pacific.

The Legal 500

In the 2019 edition of Legal 500 – United States, Gibson Dunn received 51 practice category rankings, including 18 top-tier rankings, and 32 partners were recognized as Leading Lawyers in their respective practices.  The UK Legal 500 2020 recognized Gibson Dunn in 15 practice areas and named seven partners as Leading Lawyers.  The Legal 500 EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) 2020 recognized the firm in 19 categories in Belgium, France, Germany and the UAE, and recommended 37 Gibson Dunn attorneys in their respective practice areas, with some listed in more than one category.   The Legal 500 – Latin America recognized Gibson Dunn in three categories and recommended two Gibson Dunn attorneys in their respective practice areas in the 2019 edition. The Legal 500 Deutschland ranked Gibson Dunn in seven practice areas and inaugurated one partner to its Hall of Fame and also recognized one partner as a Leading Lawyer in the 2020 edition. The Legal 500 – Asia Pacific recognized the firm’s Singapore, Beijing and Hong Kong offices in 15 categories in the 2020 edition.   

Managing IP – Americas Awards

Managing IP recognized Gibson Dunn at its Americas Awards 2020 with two awards. The firm was selected as the United States Patent Contentious Firm of the Year.  In addition, Rimini Street v. Oracle USA – in which Gibson Dunn represented Rimini Street – was recognized as an Impact Case. (March 2020)

Benchmark Litigation – U.S. Awards

Benchmark Litigation recognized Gibson Dunn at its Benchmark US awards. Gibson Dunn was named Appellate Firm of the Year, California National Firm of the Year and California Firm of the Year for both Antitrust and Labor & Employment.   In addition, CNN v. Trump, in which Gibson Dunn represented CNN, , Trendsettah USA, Inc. v. Swisher International, Inc., in which Gibson Dunn represented Swisher International, and O’Connor v. Legal Business Magazine – Corporate Team of the Year
