Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce Christopher T. Timura has joined the Washington, D.C. office as of counsel. Timura, formerly with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP, will continue his international trade practice.
Timura advises U.S., international and multinational companies on international trade regulatory and policy issues, including export controls, such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulation (EAR); sanctions; and anticorruption. He represents clients in prosecutions, administrative enforcement actions and other inquiries before various federal agencies, including the State Department (Directorate of Defense Trade Controls [DDTC]), Treasury Department (Office of Foreign Assets Control [OFAC] and Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States [CFIUS]), Department of Commerce (The Bureau of Industry and Security [BIS]), Department of Homeland Security [U.S. Customs and Border Protection [CBP]), and the Justice Department. Timura uses a combination of project management, technology, and cross-functional understanding of client business operations to design and strengthen integrated international trade control, CSR, and ESG diligence and compliance systems. He also assists clients working with emerging and controlled technologies in developing effective international trade licensing and regulatory compliance strategies.
Timura practiced with Akin Gump since 2008, and Paul Hastings from 2004 to 2008. In 2001, he served as a law clerk to a member of the United Nations International Law Commission.
Timura graduated cum laude in 2003 from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as an articles editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and received the William W. Bishop Jr. Award for his performance in the international law curriculum. He also earned a Ph.D. in 2004 in cultural anthropology at the University of Michigan.
