Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Y. Shukie Grossman, former co-head of the U.S. private funds group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, has joined the New York office as a partner and co-chair of the firm’s Investment Funds Practice Group.  Grossman will continue his investment fund practice at Gibson Dunn.

“We are excited to have Shukie on board,” said Ken Doran, Chairman and Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn.  “He has 20 years of experience in private practice and at the SEC’s Investment Management Group.  He has a stellar reputation in the fund sponsor community and in the overall private equity sector, and our lawyers have known him for many years.  His arrival continues our growth in this area, following the significant private equity additions in our London office. ”

“Shukie is a terrific addition to the firm,” said Steven Shoemate, Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Private Equity Practice Group, and Co-Partner in Charge of the New York office.  “His practice centers on fund formation for a broad base of clients, including domestic and international private equity, real estate and infrastructure fund clients, which complements our firm’s current strengths and adds depth to our investment funds team.  We also see significant opportunity to leverage his substantial experience in other areas, including private equity transactions.”

“Having admired Shukie for many years from across the table, we are thrilled to be finally partnering with him,” said Edward Sopher, Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Investment Funds Practice Group.   “His arrival will be a great asset to our existing clients and will boost our growth in the fund area.”

“Gibson Dunn has top-tier funds and private equity practices,” said Grossman.  “I have enjoyed working with a number of the firm’s partners over the years and am looking forward to working with them as my new colleagues.  The firm has an entrepreneurial culture that will give me the opportunity to expand and enhance my practice.”
