Gibson Dunn Adds Patent Litigator to Orange County Office

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Frank P. Coté has joined Gibson Dunn’s Orange County office.  Formerly a partner with Jones Day in Irvine, Coté will continue his intellectual property and patent litigation practice with Gibson Dunn.

Coté has extensive experience in patent counseling and litigation, and he has particularly strong experience with complex high-technology cases.  His more than 15 years of experience includes representations involving a wide variety of technologies in the electrical arts, including digital imaging, data storage, signal processing and distribution, smart phones, semiconductor manufacturing, memory design and packaging, power conversion and protection circuitry, medical devices, and wireless data transmission, among others. 

Coté’s experience includes participation in several patent trials, in arbitration, before the International Trade Commission, and before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.  In addition to his patent litigation experience, Coté has experience in trademark litigation and clearance, complex commercial litigation, drafting technology related licenses and agreements, and conducting technology related due diligence reviews.  Super Lawyers has named him to its Southern California Super Lawyers ranking every year since 2012. 

Coté received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1999 and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Clarkson University in 1992.  From 1992 to 1999, he served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked on the Space Shuttle Main Engine and International Space Station programs, and where he served as an assistant professor of aerospace studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
