Gibson Dunn Expands Dallas Office With Prominent Corporate Lawyer R. Jay Tabor

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that R. Jay Tabor has joined the firm as a partner in the Dallas office.  Formerly a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, he will continue to focus his practice on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions.

About R. Jay Tabor

A corporate partner with Weil since 1999, Tabor focuses his law practice on M&A and private equity transactions.  He has extensive experience in the energy industry, particularly in the midstream and equipment and services sectors. 

He recently represented Kinder Morgan in its $38 billion acquisition of El Paso Corporation, which created the largest pipeline company in North America and for which he was named “Dealmaker of the Week” by The Am Law Daily.  Other recent transactions for Kinder Morgan include its recent initial public offering, which was the largest energy IPO in recent years, the $7.15 billion sale of its exploration and production business to Apollo Global Management and its $5 billion acquisition of Copano Energy.  He also represented Richard Kinder and his senior management team in the $22 billion buyout of Kinder Morgan, Inc.  

Other transactions on which he has advised include General Electric’s $3.3 billion acquisition of Lufkin Industries, a leading supplier of artificial lift products to the energy industry; the $37.25 billion joint venture by GE and Comcast for ownership of NBC Universal; and the acquisition of SRS Distribution, one of the nation’s largest roofing distributors, by Berkshire Partners.

Tabor graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1990.
