Gibson Dunn Promotes 13 Lawyers to Partnership

​Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has elected 13 new partners, spanning both corporate and litigation-related practices and the firm’s offices, effective January 1, 2017.

The new partners are:

Timothy P. Best (Intellectual Property Litigation / Los Angeles) – Best’s practice focuses on patent litigation in many fields, particularly in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical devices industries; he also has experience in copyright and trademark litigation.  He graduated in 2007 from University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where he served on the Editorial Board of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and served as an advisor for the BTLJ Annual Review.  He also earned a doctorate in 2005 in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).

Jonathan C. Bond (Appellate / Washington, D.C.) – Bond’s practice focuses on appellate litigation in the Supreme Court of the United States and other federal and state appellate courts in cases involving constitutional law, administrative law, employee benefits, telecommunications, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, securities, class actions, and intellectual property, among other areas.  He served as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and Judge Jeffrey Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  Bond graduated in 2008 with highest honors from the George Washington University Law School, where he received the John Bell Larner Award for the highest cumulative grade point average and served as Senior Articles Editor of the George Washington Law Review

Matthew B. Dubeck (Corporate, M&A / Los Angeles) – Dubeck advises companies, investors and financial advisors on public and private merger transactions, stock and asset sales (including representation and warranties insurance policies), equity and venture capital investments, joint ventures and strategic partnerships across a broad range of industries.  He served as law clerk for Judge Julia Smith Gibbons of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and a judicial intern for Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.  He graduated in 2005 magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as Managing Editor of the Tax Lawyer.

Anita Girdhari (Infrastructure / New York) – Previously an of counsel, Girdhari practices in the areas of capital markets and infrastructure.  She has substantial experience in Latin America-related transactions, project bonds and infrastructure financings and assets, and all types of debt financings.  She graduated from New York University School of Law in 2005. 

Noam I. Haberman (Real Estate / New York) – Haberman focuses on complex commercial real estate financing transactions across all asset classes, including origination, acquisition and syndications of mortgage, mezzanine, preferred equity and corporate facilities.  He also has substantial restructuring experience representing both creditors and debtors in workouts, insolvency proceedings and the exercise of remedies.  He graduated in 2008 from New York University, where he served as an Articles Editor of the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy

Gabriel Herrmann (Litigation / New York) – Herrmann’s practice focuses on complex business and financial-services disputes, often involving cross-border issues, as well as securities class actions and shareholder-derivative suits, insolvency-related litigation, and antitrust litigation.  He also has significant experience representing clients in administrative and constitutional challenges to state and local government action.  He graduated in 2003 cum laude from Cornell Law School, where he served as an article editor of the Cornell Law Review.

Timothy W. Loose (Litigation, Class Actions / Los Angeles) – Loose’s practice covers a broad range of business litigation, with a focus on class and mass action litigation where he has substantial experience defending the products and advertising of companies at all levels of the litigation process.  He served as a law clerk for Judge Ronald S.W. Lew of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.  He graduated in 2005 from the University of California – Los Angeles School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and served as a member of the Journal of International Law and Foreign Affairs.

Saee Muzumdar (Corporate, M&A / New York) – Muzumdar represents public and private companies in connection with complex corporate transactions, focusing on mergers and acquisitions (both domestic and cross-border), joint ventures, equity financing/investments and general corporate matters. She also has significant experience representing financial advisors and hedge funds in connection with M&A matters.  She graduated in 2008 magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. 

Judith Raoul-Bardy (Corporate / Paris) – Raoul-Bardy focuses on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, including strategic investments and private equity transactions.  Her experience covers a broad range of industries, with a particular focus on media and telecoms. She graduated in 2003 from Université Panthéon-Assas.

Lucas C. Townsend (Appellate / Washington, D.C.) – Townsend practices appellate and constitutional law.  He was a law clerk for Associate Justice Samuel Alito of the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and Judge Harold Ackerman of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.  He graduated in 2004 magna cum laude from the Seton Hall University School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the Seton Hall Law Review.

Eric D. Vandevelde (Litigation, Cybersecurity and White Collar / Los Angeles) – Previously an of counsel, Vandevelde practices in the areas of white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement, complex litigation matters, as well as cybersecurity and data privacy.  From 2007 to 2014, he served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California, where he was Deputy Chief of the Cyber & Intellectual Property Crimes Section.  He also clerked for Judge Howard Matz of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.  He graduated in 2005 from University of California – Los Angeles School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.  He has a degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Doug Watson (Litigation, Arbitration / London) – English-qualified, Watson has broad-based disputes experience, encompassing High Court litigation, regulatory investigations, cross-border disputes and appearing as counsel and advocate in international arbitrations conducted under all major institutional rules.  He graduated in 2003 from the University of Oxford.

James L. Zelenay, Jr. (Litigation, False Claims Act / Los Angeles) – Previously an of counsel, Zelenay focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, government and regulatory defense, and internal investigations.  He has particular experience in False Claims Act investigations and litigation, and in matters involving the education sector.  Zelenay served as a law clerk for Judge Nora Manella of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.  He graduated in 2004 magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation.
