Lauren R. Goldman is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is a member of the firm’s Class Actions, Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Innovation, and Appellate and Constitutional Law Practice Groups. Ms. Goldman’s practice focuses on high-stakes class- and mass-action disputes, particularly in the area of data privacy.
Ms. Goldman currently serves as lead counsel for major technology and social media companies in putative class actions alleging privacy violations under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. She also represents technology clients in putative class actions alleging violations of the Wiretap Act, the Stored Communications Act, the California Invasion of Privacy Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and various common-law privacy doctrines. She regularly counsels clients on how to ensure compliance with state and federal privacy laws and regulations, and has significant experience drafting and enforcing privacy policies, terms of use and social-media policies for international corporations.
Ms. Goldman has also served as lead legal strategy counsel to a major consumer-products company for over a decade in connection with more than a dozen high-stakes jury trials, including two cases in which the plaintiffs unsuccessfully sought more than $1 billion in damages and has successfully challenged many excessive punitive damages awards at trial and on appeal.
The American Lawyer recently included Ms. Goldman in its “Litigators of the Week” series (October 22, 2021) for her work serving as defense counsel to Meta at a trial in the Northern District of California. Additionally, she is recognized by Chambers USA as one of New York’s top litigators. Clients note that “Lauren is phenomenal. Ms. Goldman received her J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the New York University Law Review and of the Order of the Coif. Following graduation, she served as a law clerk to Judge Dennis Jacobs of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
