Washington, D.C. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Neil Whiteman has joined the Washington, D.C. office as Of Counsel, where he will focus his law practice on government contracts, including bid protests, contract claims and disputes, source selection competitions, alternate dispute resolution and cost accounting standards.
Whiteman served as Corporate Counsel to Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company since June 2009. At Lockheed, he was legal counsel for the Global Communications Systems line of business, which has more than $10 billion in active contracts. He oversaw government contracts, subcontracts and intellectual property in major space and ground systems from the acquisition strategy phase through bid and proposal, performance and contract close-out. He provided legal advice on all aspects of research, development, and production of next-generation communications satellites.
From June 2007 to June 2009, Whiteman served as Chief Trial Attorney for the U.S. Air Force. In that capacity, he led a trial team of 34 attorneys and paralegals representing the Air Force in all aspects of complex commercial litigation.

Whiteman graduated in 1993 from West Virginia University College of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the West Virginia Law Review and a member of the Moot Court and Order of the Coif. He received an LL.M. with highest honors in Government Contract Law from The George Washington University Law School in 2000 and an M.S. in National Security Studies from the National War College. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy in 1984.
