March 8, 2013

Euromoney’s Project Finance magazine has named two Gibson Dunn transactions among its 2012 Deals of the Year.  Topaz Solar was named the 2012 North American Solar Deal of the Year.  Led by New York Peter Hanlon, the firm represented MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, as sponsor, and Topaz Solar Farms, as issuer, in the $1.195 billion financing by Topaz Solar Farms (owner of a 550 MW solar power project in construction).  According to Project Finance, this was the largest renewables bond financing ever.  Oaxaca II and IV were named 2012 Latin American Project Bond Deal of the Year.  New York partner Tomer Pinkusiewicz led the firm’s representation of the initial purchasers in the bond refinancings of two 102 MW wind projects in Oaxaca, Mexico.  This marked the first time Mexican renewables projects were financed by U.S. capital markets, according to the publication.  Winning deals were announced on March 8, 2013.
