Philip Rocher is an English qualified solicitor, and is the senior partner in the Dispute Resolution Group in the London office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He specialises in commercial litigation and international arbitration, and has outstanding experience in taking large complex matters through to a concluded trial or arbitral hearing.
Mr. Rocher regularly advises on disputes arising from the full range of commercial activities, in particular joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and the contentious elements of restructurings. He has also led large-scale internal investigations involving corporate activity in multiple jurisidictions and related compliance issues. A significant element of Mr. Rocher's practice involves advising European and US insurers and reinsurers on coverage and avoidance issues and representing these clients in international arbitrations.
His litigation experience includes successfully defending Deloitte in a nine month High Court trial in London in relation to claims for over £1 billion arising from the collapse of the Barings Group, and securing a judgment in excess of £500 million on behalf of the plaintiffs in the Gooda Walker Lloyd's litigation. He has also represented clients in both the Court of Appeal and in the House of Lords, which is the highest appellate court in the UK.
Prior to joining Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, he was a partner in the London office of Clifford Chance.
Mr. Rocher has been identified as an expert in the field of Commercial Litigation in the 2012 edition of UK Legal 500 and UK Legal Experts 2012 and is listed as one of the leading practitioners worldwide in the International Who's Who of Commercial Litigation Lawyers 2011.
